1971 BMW 2800CS Engine Burn

It really costs 10 to 15 grand to redo an e9 interior depending on how complete you want to go with all the materials and what the labor costs if you are not doing it yourself . The front covers and the rear covers are 2000 each in leather from world so that would be 4g right there .,vinyl is half that. plus new padding which in horse hair is 150 per seat . Carpet is 800 and door panels are 400 each. The wood is 11oo from Bella butbifvyou do it from Madeira concepts it's 3G . Then the labor to recover and stuff the seats and install the carpet and new lading and to take out and reinstall the wood which may require full dash removal and front windshield removal and replacement is going to be costly in labor . I think VSR charged 2000 to take out and reinstall new wood for someone on here I'm sure I forgot things like under carrier padding and redoing dash if there are cracks , etc . If you can get all the interior parts from that. Copart car for under 10g that look almost new you would be saving a lot of money especially after reselling all the stuff you don't need like bumpers . Etc

Good buy if it's rust-free and under $10k.

Put in a 3.5L and wiring harness...paint the engine compartment and you're good!

Sounds like a good plan! I actually extracted the wiring loom running through the engine bay from my parts car should someone on the forum pick this up as they will likely need that replaced regardless of engine transplant or not.

Now it's at $9300. =(

What would this car be worth if it were running? That's the question I'm asking. I'm trying to get it, but can't really justify $11,000 after fees and tow across the country.

Well the salvage title will always be a scarlet letter so i would take the restored value and cut it in half for resale. It looks really nice but t when you get into the teens it's becoming more risky imo. If there i any hidden rust on there you could end up paying too
much. History on the car would be nice.

There we go. Sold for $16.3K if I saw the last bid correctly to some buyer in Oregon. There was actually a bidder from Indiana in the last bid but no, it was not me. I would like to think that the buyer checked the car in person if that is at all possible. While the interior was nice, the cost of engine work and new paint up front will add up. I'm not sure as a business proposition with a salvage title I would have paid that much given that reasonable E9s can be had in the 20's and even think of DoubleDutch's Malaga E9 for 17.5k. Will be interesting to see if the car surfaces later for sale. That interior and staggered Mahle 14's will be easy to recognize.

I was watching with you. I couldn't believe it went for that much. I was tempted to order a third party inspection of the car, but didn't. They would have gone to the car, taken a bunch of pictures and documented any damage/rust in a report. I think we'll see this car again. I don't know who would take it apart at that price.
