Interesting to see a Bavaria with Tan Leather Seats (corrected, they are vinyl, ad said tan leather). This color works well on an e3. One of the nicer ones to come up for sale in a while. Should be interesting to follow.

What a special car! A model for Bavaria originality. Love the matching Becker tape player in the glove box...

Note the black wrinkle painted cam cover. I would think this was original but I've never seen another stock like this...

Red handled screwdrivers, feeler gauge, allen wrenches...

I have a NOS exhaust system which does not have the small, middle muffler. I wonder what year/month BMW added this muffler...

The hub caps and rings look new. Those must be the original tires (XAS)...with Munich air ;) ...

A 1972 with a "fasten seat belt" light on the dash?

Black valve cover has been sprayed black, 3.0l cars received the third muffler can, seats are vinyl. Looks amazing.
I thought that was extremely odd, I see you commented on BAT to straighten that out regarding leather seats in a BAV. It seems the seller is trying to pass off as 14K original miles with no mention of odometer roll over. The pedals (which are kind of hard to see) don't look too worn, the interior look like it's possible. I see the documentation booklets but no milage recordings over the years to prove that. The undercarriage and the painted valve cover kind of say 114K. First thing that needs to be addressed is taking that silly roundel off of the front right quarter panel. Cheapens the cars look. Simple enough.

I wish this was automatic! So I could afford it, maybe, and my wife could drive it. The bigger problem, we love Lilli our 1976 Chamonix 2002 with ac and automatic and 81,000 true miles on the clock. Thanks again to JMinNJ for passing on this amazing '02.

It is strange that it is placed so near the belt molding and that a corresponding one was not put on the other side. Me thinks it may be covering a ding or an alarm key switch. Also, I wonder how permanently it is attached and how much damage it will do to remove it. In any case, if I was in the market this would not hold me back.

This from the auction comments by an owner prior to the seller...

"I recall that the right front fender had a strange little rectangle of damaged/missing paint from some sort of sticker or emblem that had been installed and removed which is currently covered by the roundel shown in the photos."

My 72 has a "Fasten Seat belt" thing on the dash. It has been disconnected but I actually want to get it working again for originality.

I am happy to see that the muffler causes one support to stretch like hell compared to the other. I have the same thing and thus, a box of those rubber rings.

Wow!
Now at 49k…!!!!

So it still looks like the owner is running with it being 14k original miles and not 114K. I still didn't see any service records documenting that over the years. I see the service records laid out but nothing confirming the milage. Like I said, interior vinyl, dash and exterior paint looks possible, underside looks like more than 14K miles have been put on the car. Anyone else get any more feedback on that? But from the bidding and where the price is maybe it is original miles.

One thing I find a little odd is that someone has removed the spacers from the strut towers...

Not that that is a bad thing, just unexpected for such an original car. Perhaps that was done with the 15" wheel change if the nose high attitude stood out more when they were installed.

@Dick Steinkamp - You’d buy it if the put they steelies back on, yes?

Though I’ve been bullish on the values since the silver car sold, even I’m surprised at the price support above the high $30’s. Five different people have bid $40k or more.

For those of you not watching at home, it’s at $50.5k right now.

Yes....but I'd have to use your money. ;)

Wheels, tires, and stance are probably the most changed features of a car. They are a quick and relatively inexpensive way for the owner to personalize it. I'm far from a purist and done all three many times (and much more :)). To me, however, an E3 looks best as the understated hot rod that it came from the factory as. But that's just my opinion and all (well, most ;)) others are valid for each owner.

The wheels, tires and stance (removed strut spacers) on this car look good...but I'd put the steel wheels, caps and rings on it. It's nice the seller still has them. My guess is that maybe half the potential buyers would put them back on, the other half would either leave the current wheels and tires on or change to something else that personalizes the car more to their liking.
