This 1973 BMW 3.0CS is a US-spec example which the seller purchased in 1983, the same year that he opened an independent BMW repair and modification business in San Francisco. The car was used to demonstrate the shop’s capabilities throughout the years and has been modified with a bored and stroked 3.5-liter inline-six featuring triple Mikuni carburetors. Power is sent through a five-speed manual gearbox and factory limited-slip differential, while other highlights include body modifications, two repaints in silver, 17″ HRE wheels, lowering springs, a refurbished interior with blue leather Recaro seats, an E28 M5 clutch, adjustable timing and Electromotive ignition setups, and more. This modified E9 is offered with a spare set of 15″ Work wheels and tires, removed stock bumpers, miscellaneous spares, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.
 
Thank goodness bumpers and new door panels are included.

Should be a blast to drive.

All that custom body work, but left the USA side markers in.
 
As you can tell from my following comments it's a slow morning around the house...

Very nice car and creative craftsmanship, however I would use a different color of masking tape for my custom made polarity indicator on the battery box.
I wonder why the stock transmission mounts weren't used?
Just from a hot-rodding point of view, after all the high-power modifications to the intake and engine, why the stock exhaust?
A super-duper M5/Spicer drivetrain connected to the worst giubo possible?
Custom airbox? Any pics of that? There's a little funnel there and some air cleaners but no actual box. Goble's Law of Airboxes states that if the box is not an actual closed box, all of the air presented to the carburetors will come through the radiator and the output of the funnel will serve to cool the alternator.
 
yep ... missed an opportunity to sell for a reasonable price ... and more than i would pay as there are some mods that i am not fond of
 
He can probably still sell it for the final bid plus. That's how I got my car. If his reserve is 75-80, that'll probably happen, especially without premium. If his reserve is $100k, he's going to have more trouble finding the right buyer. Many of the complaints are easily remedied, like the interior. But in that price range, many will want A/C or will be skeptical of a blue engine, the unique features of that engine setup, and the harness, all of which might take more work than someone wants for that much money. But I like most of this car, even if I wouldn't do it, and I definitely like the seller's passion.

I'm not getting what the long, narrow, plastic box around the carburetor fuel lines does. Catches fuel spray when a line lets go?
