1974 BMW 3.0CS 4-sp on BAT

Congrats @GolfBavaria . Well bought and looks to be a solid car. I like the stripes, too!

Regarding earlier comments on price and current market. My question is why the seller would have agreed to such a low reserve for this? Market dynamics aside, any reasonable seller would have expected a minimum $70K price.

@GolfBavaria I'm envious as you can thoroughly enjoy this car daily, knowing any additional repairs or work needed (there will always be some) will result in ROI.

It made it, not a great pic, I will take some better ones later, wanted to get it in garage as a lot of the fires from Oregon and surrounding WA area are blowing this way, super windy today, not good for the poor people around the fire area. I know all too well about that with the two big fires in Santa Rosa, CA. Tubbs fire went up to the doorstep and around my folks house. One of (7) that survived just in their neighborhood of 107 homes total (100 complete losses the others).

It almost looks purple in the pic, must be the haze or something.

For now I am just going to drive it, see where the weak spots are, hunt for some tools, front bumper brackets, front bumper, etc.

Winter is long here (7-months or so give/take) so I don't want to start on project at the height of the driving season. Once Winter hits, first thing I typically do with the cars is the suspension. Get that dialed in so it handles nicely. So far, poking around just for a little bit it does look really clean and the AC was working pretty good, may need a recharge but I didn't run it long. Got my temp plate and registration today which was perfect timing as it just arrived yesterday. Time to get out and drive it! :p

Was supposed to go on a CCA sponsored drive today, but it got cancelled due to road construction along the route so they decided to meet at the local CD'A C&C. I went late to meet a couple of the CCA guys. It's funny, a lot of people in CD'A have no idea what this car is. Drove amazingly well, considering carbs were adjusted at sea level. We are at 2,260' but didn't seem to affect the Weber's at all.

Happy about that. Fun first drive.

What a beautiful coupe! Yours might be the E9 deal of the year. I bought my first E9 in April (a fjord/white car) and am also in the PNW. I’m sorting out some mechanical stuff, though the cosmetics are quite good. But very well done - congratulations!!

Great car!! I really like the motorsport stripe. Have you ran into my buddy Alan yet? He has an unbelievable round taillight 02 with a S14 swap all wrapped in Chili Pepper red paint. You can't miss him or his car, they are both loud.

Yes I know him, I didn't realize that was a wrap. He goes to most of the CCA events. He hasn't seen the coupe yet.

No, it's not a wrap - just was saying that whole sweet package of a car is 'wrapped' in a very, very red paint job. Say hi to him from the Oregon crew!

Oh, ok, I get it...I was like "huh?" That's the nicest wrap I've ever seen then...LOL. Will do, we have a couple of cool events coming up, you should try and make it out.

Also a Inland Empire Chapter Fall Picnic at John Barlow's who puts on the SoCal Vintage and has a crazy collection of BMW's here in WA. 09-21-24. I couldn't download the attachment. Eastern side near Spokane. If interested let me know. Also, he is the head of the Festival of Speed and I know the President or ex-President, not sure what title is not but he is a founding member I think. BMW corral this year, racing, etc. Not a bad drive for you.

Finally after months and months between shipping from Germany to Holland, taken apart and shipped to me, then securing a slot at the Chromer's to have the work done, waiting on them for weeks, the front Euro bumper is finally on. New chrome, rubber and hardware with some cool Marchal's from Enoz, but most important the engineering that went into making custom bracket mounts to fit into the '74 round holes. This accomplished many things. First off, it's not fitting a square peg in a round hole which is what is typically done from what I've seen. I thought, "there has to be a better way." This is not a complicated engineering feat, simple but effective. It fills the holes (which is nice, no welding anything in their place, paint etc. and fit great. The entire bumper can also be slid out just loosening a few bolts. My guy that helped put all this together and fab the parts didn't want me to give away all his secrets but may replicate what he did if the price is right. But he really doesn't want to deal with that. If he did, he said it would be around $700 for both. Not including install unless you are in the area, which nobody on here is.

Funny story about the valve cover. When I took it in to Chromer along with the bumper, we had a miscommunication and he chromed the valve cover instead of brushed aluminum look. I didn't notice when I picked it up because it was all bubble wrapped. I show up to the shop to pick up the coupe yesterday and and was like WTH? LOL. I've had one before I hung on the wall as art, but it went with another motor eventually and no longer have it. I still have a nicely brushed aluminum one but filler cap is to the left, not right. It is growing on me fast as it does match the bling on the hood vents and side vent grills. Found a really nice air cleaner in great shape so engine bay looks much better now. I'll be honest, I wasn't a big fan of the chrome valve covers but in some weird way it fits this car. He also chromed the origiinal "L" brakets from the original bumper...again, didn't expect that. I'm probably the only one with a set of those. Didn't use them, but may put up for sale, we will see. They do look good but not really a part you want to stand out and be chromed, but someone may like them.
