Although the above list is quite comprehensive, it's perhaps a little over the top to buy and replace all those parts. I've done two swaps on my car, first to a 4 speed, then a 5 speed came up.
Hardest item to find was the OE console surrounding the shift lever but you could make one of these if you weren't asleep in shop class. If you were asleep, then maybe you're missing fingers and will have a bit of a harder time.
Clutch and brake pedals need to come from a Bavaria, may be difficult to locate as these cars are now largely gone.
'81 52i1 with 5 spd trans purchased for $350 not running, towed home, later discarded to municipality when done. Honolulu (the city) will tow and dispose junks for free if you give them title.
