74 CSL #2275525 at Hyman

For that price I would want the correct cigarette lighter, the front hood seal, rubber plugs where the non-CSL hood latches would be and the correct valve cover without the raised boss near injector #6. (And the small red screwdriver!)

And since built in 10/73, wonder why it wasn't delivered until late 9/74? I think this is properly a 1973 CSL.

I doubt that build date is correct - its a bat alright and has been discussed here before.

There are several things that appear to be incorrect.

Incorrect plating on nuts
Incorrect hose clamps/plating
if it is a '74 then it has the wrong wiper motor
Heater cover is glossy not satin black
wipers are not parked correctly
incorrect valve cover
incorrect hose going from the radiator core support to the airbox
no body grommets for the fuel lines in the trunk, soft or hard lines
incorrect mirrors
as Chris points out, incorrect pep boys cigarette lighter
I am sure there's more since these are so obvious

-did '74s have fan shrouds?

I think since all 110 Series I BATs were built in 1973 it is a 73, maybe titled as a 74 since sold a year later. I also noticed loose antenna wires, windshield washer hose routed under air intake, glossy coolant reservoir, trunk carpet with cutout for trunk caddy which weren't in the BATs. I know these seem as nitpicks but they are asking $345K! Oh, and no grommets for hood light wire near headlight door.

It's not denying value, I am not one to do that unless the money is insane like an $83,000.00 toyota celica. It just seems that a car would have been better prepared at that price or any price considering it is a CSL and a BAT at that! The items we pointed out are usually ignored on a $25,000-$50,000 2800 or 3.0cs/i.

Oh and where's the Kugelfischer???

Well said Roger!! I came across this one 2 weeks ago and was indeed surprised at the value. The detailed info/ pics etc are only for 'prospective' buyers. On the other hand, here, a top CSL restorer, using NOS CSL sheet metal, front and rear fenders and a COMPLETE nut and bolt restauration, no patch work/ NO bondo on the sheet metal, and everything onwards from engine, interior etc etc etc, takes an easy € 6 figure. Then add the cost of a CSL and (obviously) profit, and you end up at the mentioned price for a NON BAT!
Whether someone buys it or not (right now), like the Hyman CSL, is almost secondary to the fact that, in which direction CSL's are heading. For us who been into E9's for 30 odd years, such prices are "mind blowing", to say the least, but I remember thinking the same about gulwings, M1's etc. Those who grew up with those cars then, are surely in the same 'thinking dilemma' , prices wise, as we are today. The only remorse is why we didn't buy (more) CSL's whilst they were being literally thrown away, and not so long ago!

OCCoupe - what Kugelfischer is that!?

It is written in the ad, no kugelfischer in a street e9.

= D jetronic. BUT is that the elusive and exclusive CSL lightweight white CSL battery!

The CSL has value, that's not the issue from my perspective. The issue is price vs. quality. If I'm ready to drop $345K on a CSL it better be absolutely perfect. If I were truly interested in this CSL, I want it to be constructively criticized by people I trust.

If it had the K-fisch system, the 6 cylinder pump is worth $30K

FYI the car is in Hershey at the Hyman tent.

The white CSL looks amazing. All it needs is a proper black with blue dot brake reservoir cap! :)

And as stated earlier, a top dollar CSL needs to have an authentic restoration to original standards and nothing less.

Ouch, and BAT would not list my little Hamleta with a 50K reserve. She may not be a batmobile but she has all the parts in the right place :-)

If I were a collector and was interested in this car I would be very suspicious of what else is incorrect. So far everything that has been pointed out is minor and could have been easily addressed; but instead someone chose to overlook the details and take shortcuts. If you look closely the hose clamps look yellow. Why would you plate stainless steel hose clamps? What happened to the original valve cover? Why wouldn't you order new grommets for the trunk/fuel lines? They're still available. Again, if these items are wrong what else is wrong?
