Things may have developed some in the hydrogen area since I last read up on it, but a sticking point then was where is this hydrogen coming from? Are you cracking hydrocarbons (gas) to get it? If so, where does the non-hydrogen part end up? And how much power does that process take?A lot of conversation around Chatgbt in both academia and workplace.
Hydrogen fuel cell cars are cool. I wouldn't mind one.
Totally agree, the decision had been made at some point that they would be getting the hydrogen for fossil fuels - not ok. Defeats the purpose.Things may have developed some in the hydrogen area since I last read up on it, but a sticking point then was where is this hydrogen coming from? Are you cracking water with electricity to get the hydrogen? Sea water? Fresh water? California doesn't have a surplus of fresh water and salt water is rough on equipment. Where does the power come from? California doesn't have a surplus of that either. Nuclear has its own carbon footprint, though it's less than coal or gas. And hydro power, well we are back to needing more water.
Solar power would be a relatively carbon free way to get that energy, though production of solar panels has sone issues as well.
Hydrogen cars are basically electric cars with a hydrogen fuel cell instead of batteries. This lets you refuel fast and not require as many rare earth components as fully electric cars. So you're limited to the extent of the hydrogen refueling stations which are almost nonexistent outside CA, I think.
I do think hydrogen fueled cars are a possible option for the future, but I don't think we are ready for a full scale roll out yet.
They design their own chips (some of them) the new "m" cpus are amazing.@Arde, does Apple make any of their own chips anymore?
Isn't your post esentially a Poll to do a poll? -;Maybe we need a Poll to see if members want to continue seeing political innuendo mingled into the posts. I personally feel it detracts from the friendships that are a great part of this Forum.
I don’t see why you thought I was referring to your post as I certainly wasn’t.@HB Chris I wasn't thinking about it - discussing whether or not to use fossil fuels to create hydrogen shouldn't be discussed in this forum - in my opinion. I discussed this. I'll bet there are other issues discussed in this thread that may be too politicized.
I‘d hate to see humans lose their jobs to AI, but the people who write auction descriptions over at BAT should be concerned.A lot of conversation around Chatgbt in both academia and workplace.

I love talking politics and by the consensus of views on this site, I am the polar opposite of what seems to be 95% of the people on here (I'm very right wing conservative and proud of it). I was one of the culprits that commented on the Covid thread late after holding back for a while that seemed soon after it was shut down. I was told it wasn't just me and my comments, but others as well that didn't agree with my (or their) posts, but either way, I will be the first to say it is NOT a good idea on a small site like this geared to vintage BMW talk to have political threads.Maybe we need a Poll to see if members want to continue seeing political innuendo mingled into the posts. We were several that pointed this out when the political talk first got accepted in the covid thread, but it was okay then, so I don't understand what's different now? Can't have it both ways, or just when it suits someones personal political view.
My point is, either there's no political talk at all, or accept opinions from all sides.
Personally I have no problems with political talk, but unfortunately I know what it can do to small forums.
