AC Switch Rheostat Fan Speed Control

It actually looks as though there are 5 terminals, look closely.

I read this one several times, excellent write up. Not sure about others but for me in Miami, and especially with the higher than average temps…my limiting factors were the biggest condenser I could squeeze in, a Sanden 709, new W&N AC radiator, big Stal fan, shroud for improved airflow & running R12 which I can get. Yes, I could hang meat in the car and keep a Helly Hansen ski jacket in the trunk if things get weirder than that.
Max--Getting full window tint per my post will negate some of the hot sun coming in through our big windows.

the original switcheS were last produced in 1992 I believe.
I bought 10 in Egypt 5 years ago and haven’t seen anymore for sale since.
sounds like you have a 72 car with a 74 AC system so will need the later switch.
Clearer photos…I do have a 72csi and the person who sold me the complete E9 AC system said he removed it from a later car which I believe was a 73-74cs. I purchased the whole system very complete with all original hardware. Thanks @bavbob for posting the switch I need. I just PM’d you.

The E9 switch has a longer stem and threads because of a small spacer (not shown) installed to the inside rear of the AC faceplate. The longer stem, threads and spacer allow the switch extra rearward clearance for the plug socket to line up correctly. It would seem the E3 does not require as much clearance.

It’s a tighter fit in the e9 as it has to have the plug horizontal, in an e3 the panel is taller and there is room to have the switch vertical as I recall.

FYI. My switch is clearly an E3: 19mm total post, 7mm= length of threaded portion.
