air filter box recovered and painted

How did the RAL 6015 turn out? I am going to order up a spray can to do a CSi airbox and am looking at the 7022 and this one, I want to lean toward the olive green, not grey. They can also put RAL 140 30 05 into a spray can.

Hi, i made a few samples to match my may 73 carbed air filter box(Not the rectangular csi box!). I judged both 7022 and 6015 as not good enough for me. Even tried mixing them together, but 6015 +7022 also doesn't cut it.

Note that I really doubt the accuracy of the ral color from the 6015 and 7022 spray paint can, the 6015 especially; I will add later a comparison of the samples made with the spray cans to their RAL color swatches when I'm back in the office next time ( corona -working from home thing)

After painting some trial pieces, and seeing the difference, I still was not happy. Instead I went to a local car paint shop. They measured the colour and mixed a new custom can. Much better match. See the pics below.

Now bare in mind that 2 shades exist of the carbed air filter part. My pics show my part which has a dark olive shade, not the grey shade of the other version I've seen.

Same one as @tferrer posted, I dont see a catalyzed option

I did a quick search and this website popped up as being able to supply that paint in an arcrylic enamel at what seems to be a very reasonable price . What is the right sheen (gloss, semi-gloss)? I’m asking because my stock AC was painted a very glossy metallic grey by a PO and I wanted to return it to the correct finish/color.

RAL grey

My search also yielded multiple places in the UK that can supply this code in a spray can, including a 2-part catalyzed formulation (which is preferred for resistance to gas and other solvents like carb cleaner) .

Steve, does your source do catalyzed spray cans?

anybody ever looked at RAL 7009 or 7023? i don't have an air cleaner to compare to. 7022 seems dark from my memory

From a post in Feb by me: closest color match for a carb air cleaner is RAL 7043, I have powdercoated these, it lasts longer. D-jet is RAL 7022. Neither is perfect but pretty close.

I brought mine to a auto paint/auto body supply place. The bottom or somewhere on the thing should still be pristine. I had them match it with 2k paint in a rattle can. About 25 dollars. I think these places are bored with the standard stuff, they actually looked upon my job as an interesting challenge and enjoyed it. I believe we can all conclude that a standard color will come close but custom is what is needed.
