I dont think these will fit"
The supplied caps for the 14" Alpinas are the same as those for the 16" and they are black plastic rather than spun metal, however if you want to have BMW rather than Alpina caps, the BMW ones fit fine. The main difference is the Alpina cap clips into the front of the wheel whilst the BMW metal cap is fixed from the inside of the hub.

I found a new set in metal with Alpina ‘stickers’ but for 180€ for the set. The plastic ones I would not want. They wouldn’t be period correct.
Very nice Alpina caps though!

So, the metal ones on the link above will fit? All the pics of the csl’s with the correct rims have theses metal spun caps with BMW logo.

The Alpina ones have an ID of 58.5 instead of the standard 62mm. Thanks for your input Simon.

Hello all,
I’m looking for center caps for my Alpina 7x14 rims. Rims are dated 8/72.

Can anyone confirm that these caps are the right ones and size for the 7x14’s, or if they know a better/ cheaper source.

Seller has two brand new sets, in case someone wants a set too
Mobile Tradition part number too.

Thanks

Hi Keshav,

Not sure if this helps, but my 14 x 7 Alpinas are date coded 12/73 and they have very similar looking center caps that insert from the inside of the wheel.

See photos below.

Let me know if I can take any measurements for you?

Cheers!
Dan

Dan, as always, many thanks.
And, a nice set of rims. Being as rare as they are, a few sets have appeared in the last few weeks.

I do have a question though. Is the cap 62mm/ diameter and the lower lip 80mm?
That would certainly help in insuring the right size.

Many thanks to Dan and Simon for your support.
The caps are available brand new from Walloth for 12,70 a piece. A no brainer, thanks to Stevehose who has a gorgeous set of these rims and had the answer instantly.

Hi Keshav,

I bought a set of the plastic Alpina caps (about $100 from Coupe King) but in the end decided I prefered the look of the chromed BMW caps that were already installed. Another shrewd E9 investment by me

Hi Dan,
As cool as the Alpina plastic caps might be, with your special rims, the metal caps is definitely the way to go.
If you don’t have an Alpina car, nor other Alpina add ons, then stick with the originals.
Walloth has them for 12.70 a piece, brand new. A no brainer. I’m getting a set from them and will look out for the Alpina Aluminium stickers since my csl has a lot of Alpina in there.

Hate the fact the Alpina caps just snaps on (not very tight at that) from the front vs the rear mounted BMW caps. One can just simply twist them off without much force with one hand. Can imagine how many of them were lost either by road mishaps or by sticky fingers.

The next step to completing the wheels are the wheel nuts. They are NLA and the ones W/N have are only second choice.
The right ones are available from CK. Take a look.

These are 62 x 80 mm.
Not 10% sure what they are for though? Any ideas?

Seems like Alpina has an inexhaustible supply of the wheel caps. They probably make a tidy sum selling replacement caps every year. It’s a good thing that they are relatively cheap.

How many sets of the original 7x14” rims did they produced... probably in the hundreds (not counting the recent reproductions). And the 16” rims.... most likely in the few thousands (2000 perhaps?). This is also including the low volume 4 hole 14” Alpinas that we’re made for the 02’s and the e21 3 series. Obviously, this pertains only for the open lug Alpinas, rims after this period all had lockable big center caps and produced in much bigger numbers. Keep the endless supply of wheel caps coming Alpina.

The only thing I see differ between W&N and CK is that the W&N nuts have a different top. Have I missed something else? The length?
