I've been waiting until it felt "real" before introducing myself to this great group... Since I'm on my way next week for the final "punch-list" inspection and test drive on this gorgeous E9, it's feeling pretty real!

This is a Dec. 1973 production, delivered June 1974, VIN: 4340128, original color: Turkis

I have seen a collection of "before" pictures on this one, and been through the paperwork. As far as I can tell from the registrations (from memory), it was last registered to drive in the late '80's, and had been in an Italian car dealer's showroom and not driven since '94.

It looks really clean and rust-free. I did a careful inspection, including with a digital endoscope in the frames and rails, and although I did find some powdery, completely dry dirt way up in the front frame rails, underneath it was... wax! Apparently the first Italian owner had this car liberally doused in protective wax. The interiors of the doors, pillars, rockers, frame rails all covered in wonderful wax!

So here is the Turkis Unicorn...

The car has been gone over really well, not a full rotisserie frame-off, but the whole underside was blasted, painted in Turkis, then heavy chip guard, and then Turkis again.

The motor has been redone, top and bottom, rebuilt alternator, etc... Original block, '81 valve head:

And installed:

Unfortunately the top dash is not original, but has been replaced with a tastefully done stitched leather replacement, and wood refinished:

With a nice 360mm Nardi wheel:

Oops, hit the picture limit!

The beige velour interior was replaced with beautiful, thick BMW black leather, and the door panels are newly re-done.
The car was still "under construction" and put together just enough for my first inspection.

Thanks guys! I've been active on the FAQ site as "Swiss 2002Tii" for a couple of years, and lurking here for the past eight months or so. Kept pinching myself to convince myself a life-long dream was coming true!

I have a question:

I have read threads about heat in the cabin, and in some cases fumes getting in through the front heater box section. This car has a dressing on the front of that section, but it's not the stock rubber that would seal off fumes and heat from the engine:

I see that the beautiful Granatrot 3.5CSi that just sold has it:

I don't find it in the OEM or W&N sites. I would like to add it to my "punch list".

Do you know if this is still available?

Tom

I've already bought the Lokari inner fenders for the front, and the electro-servoed heater bypass valve as winter projects!

The Turkis car is amazing. If you need a 'fog light/rear defroster' switch for your solenoid heater bypass valve, I have a spare I can send you.

Many thanks Andrew! That fills this hole (unfortunately I have a crack to fix):

What is the function of the green button (or is that what you are referring to)? Haven't looked that up yet.

Just for fun, more pictures from the first inspection:

You can see the frame is really clean, the brake lines are nicely formed and dressed:

Dan, Haha! I was corresponding with Ted "Einspritz" a while ago when that unrestored Arktikblau Tii went for $68K, and now the Granatrot 3.5CSi for $125K... I don't have any heirs, I'm gonna drive it like I stole it!
Better than when Hanz and Franz pushed it out the factory door. Amazing.
