Guys, my tenure at Texas A&M is almost up. I will be done by the end of the semester with my Master's. I've had some interviews and sent out applications, but in an attempt to cover all my bases, I thought I would ask here.

Resume is available on request, but here are some vitals:
Mechanical Engineer
BSME: GaTech, May 2007 (GPA:~2.9)
MSME: Texas A&M, May 2010 (GPA: ~3.2-3.5 depending on this semester's grades)

Previous experience: Power line design, surveying, standards creation. I worked for a small engineering firm in Atlanta for about 1.5 years full time (~3 years, including internship time) while I saved up for grad school.

Completed projects:
Thesis: Evaluating Thermal Property Enhancement of Nanoparticle-Doped Carbonate Molten Salts for use in Concentrating Solar Power Plant Thermal Storage Systems
Teaching/Waldo Robotic Control Unit: built from scratch, interfaced a modern XP machine with a VALII/VAX terminal control unit for robotic control and custom communication protocol
Beltless CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission): designed a drop-in replacement for a Honda CBR600 transmission for use in the GaTech Formula SAE car.
Hand-Controlled Plane: designed and tested a novel plane control system based on how the user moves their hand through an air current.

A soon to be new Coupe owner (not me) might be able to get you an interview with NASA in Houston...I am thinking robotics on Mars...PM me for his e-mail addy.

Congrats on your pending graduation.
I remember you having a degree of apprehension when you started your masters program.
From the resume info sounds like you did well while in school!

I'm still not so sure. I have learned a good bit, but I have been frustrated to no end by the administration. I have had projects ready to roll, with backing from several professors, only to be blocked by the department. Heck, I came here with a project proposal, backed by several professors and a raft of theoretical work and I couldn't get it past the department. The entire time spent here has had me neck-deep in theory, but very little application. Heck, the primary application class I have had was in Physics! (scientific instrument making, very cool)

I had more fun in my senior year at Tech than I have in grad school.

Still looking for gainful employment. If anyone has a lead, I'd really appreciate the help. So far, I've been shot down due to lack of experience and guys with 10+ years interviewing for entry-level work.

Nope, and I just finally finished my thesis and got all the paperwork taken care of. I am done with grad school. I will graduate in May, but I am free until then. I'm planning on moving to Columbus, GA to be with my long-term girlfriend (after 6 years of long distance she gets the ring as soon as I get some money) who has a good job that she loves, but I am still looking.

Sounds like you were corralled in during your graduate studies, surprised to hear that at A&M.

Hope you had a chance to at least enjoy the Dixie Chicken while there. Probably didn't help to have a long distance squeeze.

Are you still interested in power transmission? No job fairs in CS? I hear it's one of the Meccas of engineering and (Mays) business school recruiting.

Have you been to the texags automotive web site? Probably a good place to make some contacts, see if you can make contact with Randy03 is an electrical engineer or ME working for Mercedes Benz electric powered vehicles. May not be what your looking for and you may not want to move to Germany, but hey, you never know.

Some of the thread are pretty funny and others are informative.
