Some lovely metal work there, looking great.

Can I ask where you bought the full length floor pans?

Very nice work, Jens! Looks like the people at the body-shop knew what they were doing! Is the car going to the paint-shop soon? Have you decided on color?

Cheers,

Almost time for painting!
Found some time to upload some more pictures.
I have to say that I am very satisfied with the bodywork and the results so far.

That looks awesome! Proficiat!

When I see all of these coupes being completely rebuilt and restored I start to wonder at which point we will achieve equilibrium: As many e9s being reborn as being officially considered dead.

Damn that looks good! Is that an exact Polaris paint? On the photos it looks a little more silvery/ metal flakey, but that could be the lighting.

What is going on in the are under the rear bumper? Is that a different color or optical illusion? Grey stone guard?

Congratulations!

Thanks!
Bottom of the front and rear were first painted with stone guard, this gives another texture.
Afterwards the whole car was painted in the 060 Polaris silver color, the original BMW color.

fantastic work
its amazing how bad they are under the perfect looking cover metal
really neat to see the framing put together that way
as my car hasnt ever suffered from rust to any extend
i think they did a better job on the 74's
just plain beautiful work
wonder why everone doesnt add the inside rear fender brace?

Hi Jens,

Mooi werk!
You are keeping up a good pace. Nice to see that in just year one can take an e9 from a Dull black rust eaten hull into that shiny new pride.
Are you planning to keep it an Automatic?

@aearch; what do you mean with the "wonder why everone doesnt add the inside rear fender brace?"
I'm doing my body work (already the past 3 years....) and want to know my options.

Thanks Erik!
I didn't think myself that I would stand so far by now.

As you can see I already removed the holes for the Automatic badge on the trunk.
I will try to find a proper 5-speed when restoring the engine.

I think what Alan is referring to as the rear fender brace is, it's a strengthening 'brace' on each side, between the inner fender wall and the wheel house, in the trunk. I believe it's on all 74/75's. Take a look at Alan's resto pics and you'll notice them right away on each side (in the trunk). They are part of the updated design and are definitely an improvement structurally.
A great idea/ improvement whilst doing a resto, before the paint job though :)
I also first noticed them in Alan's pics. Mine is a 73.

Are you sure they are on "all" 74/75s ? As this example shows, it does not seem to be. Wonder if it was only a US thing in conjunction with the 5mph bumpers?

Only US coupes got the large triangular bracing from the wheelarch rearward for the big bumpers. You wouldn't want to add it as now you can't find wheelarch covers for the 74.

Hi Everyone,

It's been a while since I uploaded some pictures.
The project is still ongoing... Part by part, bolt by bolt, ...

It's hard sometimes to find some time to work on it...

I will post some pictures in the next post to keep it a bit organized and clear :)

Do not hesitate do give comments.

Thanks!
Jens
