Let down a bit perhaps by the painted calipers and exhaust and other issues that could have been addressed by BMW Classic for the 25K€. I have never seen a four speed slave cylinder with a five speed trans either.

The whole bill was €43k. The €25k number was just the bodywork which involved them stripping off the old sealant by hand, dry ice blasting the underside and painting it black.

yes the VIN plate was a new one for me too. remember, this is playing for the BaT crowd where true authenticity or perfection is not necessarily required. some people will just pull out the checkbook and buy what seems to look appropriate for big money.

2. unique color - check
3. restoration with no big / obvious rust sections ... a few minor bubbles - check
4. no obvious rust remediation (previous or current) / clean underside with uniform undercoating - check
5. Alpina 16" wheels - check
6. Petri steering wheel - check

its a nice car, could be a very nice car with some attention to detail

VIN plate ? Yes, indeed. Why would a car with an apparently ,untouched’ inner wheelhouse (?)
have such a strange VIN plate (while original (blank) VIN plates are still available) ??
The chassis embossed VIN also appears to have a strange ,frame’ ??

E9 VIN 2261 996 was imported to Sweden in 1979, registration date Sept. 6th 1979,
as a 3.0 CS, model year 1973, colour ,grey’ (which normally means ,Polaris’).
As per the official car registry the car is still in Sweden (which is not necessarily the case),
with latest MOT/TUEV/SBP check on Aug. 18th 2021 (odometer reading 21.734 km).
Car was imported to Sweden as ,removal goods’ and as such ,tax free’.
Two owners in Sweden, ownership changed on April 1st, 1980 (no joke, public record).
Now what ?
I will try to contact the registered owner.
I will contact BMW Classic.
Has anyone already contacted Andreas H. for a confirmation in which colour
VIN 2261 996 was delivered ?

That all seems like a bit unnecessary unless you are interested in purchasing.

The “frame” around the chassis VIN is common. He is just one of 1,000 examples where the lines are visible.

Looks pretty normal to me, other than overzealous body filler. We’ve seen some bad ones. I still don’t know why fill the never needs to touch the cowl.
