Couldn't get into 2nd gear...SOLVED

While you are down there…assuming we are talking about a 4 speed…

you should change your 4 shift platform blocks.

Thanks Don, but it is a 5 speed...

See attached. Can someone tell me how do I get to the upper bolt in the shift platform bushing? There is only about 3/4" of space. Is it more accessible when you remove the bottom bolt?

In second photo, is this gap here par for the course? There's about an inch of space above it.

Does the back end of the shift platform move up and down with the shifter?

Yes it does. It was determined the two bushings need to be replaced. Which I have. It's just very tight in there to remove from under the car. Im looking into it again this eve

The back end of the shifter shouldn't move up and down. It is should be supported with a bracket from below or bolted to the tunnel from above.

In the below photo, that's the end of the shift platform. There is about an inch of space between it and the tunnel. Yet no bolt or hole for one. I don't know if this is something the new bushings will correct, or if something else is missing.

Doesn’t the bolt forward of that one bolt to top of the tunnel? Peel back your carpet to check. One of those needs to be bolted to tunnel.
Thanks Chris. In fact that bolt is broken. It goes thru the tunnel. The head you can see from inside the shifter boot. So that too will get replaced.
