Be sure to have your inner fender lips rolled. ET11 with unrolled fenders will gouge the tire sidewall on the outer edge of the tread.

Are you certain of this? My car has had ET11 wheels for over 20 years with no signs of fender damage, and factory fenders. I'll check the tire size, the wheels are 15's. It is also possible that my tears are a different offset but the lip depth looks identical. I will have them off the car this month.

Markos - 16" or 14"? probably works with 7" wide / 14" wheels as the tire has more curved shoulders to a smaller contact patch - less to interfere with the fender lip.

one alternative is to use negative camber plates, which move the top of the tire toward the center of the car.

my 16" et-11 fronts don't hit on the right side, but they do on the drivers side.

Running 16x7 ET 11 BBS RSs running 205/55 16. Stock wheels are 14x6 ET 11 running 195/70 14. No rubbing with the 14s.

car is currently on 7jx14 wheels and 195/70R14. According to details on this site the ET is 11. there is no rubbing problem.
the car will be lowered 30 mm.
i have bought 225/45R16 tyres and want to use use the with 7.5 and 8X16 wheels.
question one shall i use 7.5 and 8 wheels front and back, 7.5 all around or 8 all around?
question 2 the ETs. there is a fantastic site I have used for all other cars wheel/tyre sizing http://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?wheel1=195-70-14X7ET11&wheel2=215-45-16X7.5ET11&fcl=30mm&wcl=30mm&scl=25mm

but as the car is in uk and not me i do not have the chance of measuring the necessary dimension like the distance of fender and suspension to original wheel to use them here. so any help either on giving ETs back and front or clearance dimensions on 7jx14 wheels will be highly appreciated. as mentioned i can order any ET.

As i understand, from other wheel thread reading, it is very difficult to get 8s all way around due to strut to fender width. I hope the ones running wide setups chime in to correct me if i'm wrong.

Recommend going staggered 7.5 front & 8 rear as mentioned.

you think 8 is ok in the back? do you have any idea if 225 is ok in the back?

your wheels are 7x16 and do not rub. do you think i can put on 225/50 tyres on them?

These are the largest width one can go, this is from a search I did back in October of 2011. There are several threads about tire sizes and offsets.

Front: 7.5jx16 et13, tire size: 205 55 R16
Rear: 8.5jx16 et25, tire size: 225 50 R16

Front et11
Rear et24

OEM tire Size: 195/70/14 – dia. 24.7”, 77.7” circ, rev / mile = 815
Substitutes: 205/60/15 – dia. 24.7”, 77.6” circ, rev / mile = 817
Substitutes: 225/55/15 – dia. 24.7”, 77.7” circ, rev / mile = 815
Substitutes: 205/55/16 – dia. 24.9”, 78.2” circ, rev / mile = 811
Substitutes: 225/50/16 – dia. 24.9” 78.1” circ, rev / mile = 811
Substitutes: 245/40/17 – dia. 24.7”, 77.6” circ, rev / mile = 816

Rear: 8.5jx16 et25, tire size: 225 50 R16

I will order the above then. but one question what is "Front et11
Rear et24" you quoted?

These are the ideal front and rear offsets for BMW wheels.

et11 - front 7"
et 24 - rear 8"

i think et-13 with a 7.5" is going to nail the fender lip ... i wouldn't do it. i would prefer for the 7" to be et-15 rather than 11 as i would rather rub the strut than hit the fender well again.

here is where the trouble is ...
a 195/70-14 has a tread width of 5.7" and a 205/55-16 has a tread width of 7.6" ... the overall width of the 195/70-14 is 7.9" and the overall width of the 205/55-16 is 8.4"

so the 195/70 is never going to rub because there is a much rounder sidewall to a narrower tread pattern. this does NOT exist on the 55 or smaller profile tire.

Hi guys,

Sorry if I'm highjacking this thread.

I'm looking to get a set of 17" BBS RS for my '73.
What width, ET and tires are the best fit?
I don't understand half of what is said in this thread so I'm going to have to trust all your expertise. Fenders are not rolled!
I have the loweringsprings from Carl Nelson.

The wheels I have my eye on are:
7,5x17 et 40 lip 1,5" front
8,5x17 et 40 lip 2,0" rear

Will this work? If not, what would be best in 17"?

Hope anyone is willing to help.

I think 17s don't look right on an e9. They are plentiful, but do not fit with the styling of a car from the early 1970s.

Not hijacking. ET 40 won't work, too large an offset. All your answers are in this thread regarding offsets and tire size charts

Well done! They should fit fine with rolled front inner fender lips.
