Hmm, I knew I had seen someone mention this but hadn't actually seen this older thread on LCD screen in place of the speaker. Maybe something to revive?
The challenge with CarPlay is that you really need a large 2 DIN style screen. I was looking at 1DIN versions that have a fold-out screen for my old Bronco. That might work, although it is not in a very convenient place for a touch screen in the Coupe. Hard to find one of this that has a retro look too.i was trying to find one as there are a few companies who make an aftermarket screen, but they pretty much have to be a standalone system - some for motorcycles are standalone systems that are reasonable sizes - the question is how they connect to the phone / gps. motorcycles aren't big on wires, so bluetooth is in use.
My Mac and my iPad both mirror calls from my phone, so if I want I can answer them on my laptop or iPad.. so if you have the same apps on your iPad (thinking Pandora, Spotify, Google Maps, etc), then that's basically like CarPlay. I use an iPad on our boat as a chart plotter and as a music source....Works great!!agreed on the 2 DIN screen - the problem with many of the new versions of these are they are getting big - 10" to 14" screens. that was one of the reasons i was looking at motorcycle versions as they can't afford to give away too much real estate and are probably 7" to 8" screens. not sure a fold out would work on the coupe due to the shifter - unless you don't have a/c. another option might be to use an ipad mini that connects via bluetooth to your phone - the clean simple / thin look would work ... with the exception of the power cord.
