I recently noticed that the "banana" runners are stamped 2,3,4, 5 & 6 ( "one" is unstamped ). This suggests to me the number sequence is for installation placement , however, they all share the same BMW part number . Anyone know the rationale behind the sequential numbering of an identical part ?. Thanks, Simon

Hi Simon. First I've heard of this. Do the markings look factory? Not from a later tuning? Where are they placed - I'll go look at my car for comparison.

Not having any live examples in front of me . . . I will hazard a guess.

I do not believe that earlier runners bear "2 through 6" markings. I think the unfamiliar markings may have been for later injected M30 engines poised for attachment of assorted bracketery. Per pictures below on later models (e.g., E12) still using the same style intake manifold, runner sizes and shapes may have been similar, but there were differences, e.g., studded threads, even if subtle or seemingly unnecessary.

Note, for example, protrusions on runners 2,3 and 4 below

not knowing that they are identical , it seems to me logical to have them numbered if you were to dismount them ... ?

I would think a simple marker pen would be easier ? ....and they have been stamped quite neatly . Anyways, it seems it will remain a mystery unless another set turn up elsewhere.
