Diagnostic port male plugs - where to source

Does anyone know where to source the male 6 & 9 pin plugs that would fit into the diagnostic ports in the engine compartment so that things can be wired to them?

The best and only source I know and using are the wiring harnessess as long the harness is using same of bigger connector which can be cut to the riight row/column number.

The other way is to make 3D model and print it.

I have also seen people making a housing by plugging male crimp terminals through the foil, making a fence by using box or cartoon and tape and filling all with epoxy or silicon.
 
I don't know of any 6 or 9 pin male connectors on the existing wiring harness, the male connectors would have been used at the service stations for the test equipment. Are these not some DIN standard size? I see Molex - the same? Thanks.
 
That time company called Kostal (LK mark) was manufacturing most of connectors for German car market. There were unique and after some tome were exchanged to Amphenol (AMP, later TE).

I would suggest to go other way as proposed or to change the standard to more popular. E30/E36/E34 connectors are really robust but without good extractors can't be reused without any damages.
 
Well, for all things electronic, there is the triad - Newark, Mouser or Digikey. They should all have AMP connectors.

There is also a company out there called test equipment depot, but I have not used them.

OK...I'm curious. what are your ideas (or anybody's for that matter) of things to wire to these ports?

Tune up tach, dwell, RPM, volts, amps,.....?
 
I am going to use the 6 pin one to attach to my tachometer without having to hook it to the battery and #1 spark plug wire. Like a quick connect setup. The original 6 pin diagnostic wiring (usually removed at some point) included the induction wire on #1 cylinder for the timing light which I will use instead of hooking the one from the light which is a pita with the CSi airbox in the way and gets hot as hell too. For the 9 pin I am not sure yet but if I have too much time on my hands I'll figure something out :cool:

That is clever Steve. Once you get that tach/pin setup all figured out, please share. That would be a real time saver ;)

Yes, but I don't have use for the dwell function (123 distributor), AFR (have one), or remote start and I can use my timing light for the RPM. Maybe for the rare occasion of starting the car from the engine compartment I'll rig up a push button.

You'll need to source the induction wire, I think Don says one from an e28 spark plug harness had them, I wanted an original one, very difficult to find so I just paid out the wazoo for one that came up on the FAQ. I'll keep you posted if I can get it to work.

I have a push button I made years ago for the E28 and it works on the E9. It's great for cranking the motor if and when you might need that. I have used it for valve adjustments but it's to easy to go past so I just take the fan off and put a socket on the crank nut.
I made my button from an old 35mm film can. Put button in cap and ran wire out the bottom. Don't have photo or would post.

I see you can set it to 6cyl for the tach function, but will all other functions work with an M30? Where can these be purchased (or questions asked)?
 
I loved mine on my 2002, remote start and running while never touching the ignition key, battery voltage, RPM and dwell. Sold on the bmw2002faq.com, Pat Allen makes them.

Connector family: MATE-N-LOK - family is really big and the eaxct type is not popular being pushed out by more secured connectors with additional protection chimney-like chambers where the pins are mating.

TE crimp terminal: e.g. 60618-4 => there are many of the terminals depending on the finishing and AWG of the wire to be crimped on.
