Dropping the rear suspension

I have depleted my arsenal of curse words. I plan on replacing/refurbing:

bushings
bearings
cv joints and boots
dist mount
brakes pads (rotors look ok and can easily do later when needed)
e-brake shoes and DeQ handbrake upgrade
Basically anything that invloves dropping the suspension - I only want to do this once and enjoy it for another 41 years (I hope).

shocks, springs, etc are only a year old (Bilstein/CN lowering springs).

Lots of cleaning, rust waxoiling, and repainting.

I will replenish my curse lexicon for the bearings and the install.

I found it goes in easier than it comes out, especially when everything is clean, plus it's so much fun when you have all those new parts. I am assuming that you are going to replace springs, bushings, seats, shocks, e-brakes, rotors and rebuild CV joints, boots, etc,etc the list goes on and the price goes up :-) but it's worth it!

ok

If you run short on vocabulary when installing I consider myself an expert in that area of the English language! I would be happy to do a youtube for you.

Some inspiration

The half-shaft does not want to come off, I have removed the 6 hex bolts on each side and diconnected the wishbone and stabilizer bar. Does not want to let go.

Am I missing something here?

I have tapped lightly with a BFH but am reluctant to get more violent without the ok.

Never mind, I undid the other side and one end came off, clearing the way for confirmation of upping the energy from the BFH. Both came off.

Are you talking about the big ring piece at the ends of the 1/2 shaft that bolts to the diff. flange on the inside and the hub on the outside? Once those 6 bolts are out there should be nothing holding them together except fused rust or maybe fused gasket. Have you tried separating the joint (closest to the hub flange) with a metal putty knife and hammer?

Got them off with violence. Is the red paint and the blue dot on the spindle of significance? Before I expend my curse arsenal removing it I want to make sure there isn't some weird setting here that I need to replicate. Thanks.

Steve,

i don't know the answer to your question. but i can tell you that your fun is just beginning. if i'm not mistaken, that nut you now have to take off is a 32mm ... hope you have an air impact wrench or a battery operated one.

it seems like i put a puller on the flange to pull it off, then after that its the BFH on the axle spindle with the nut to protect the threads of the spindle. at least that's the shadetree method. perhaps a pro has some other advice.

best
