Who needs Carini?
Our current issue of Roundel--starting on page 34 of the December 2012 is a well written and presented article about one of the most mature E-9's that's still going strong and which has carved out a special provenance in its years since it was built on September 5th, 1969. BLUMAX is the 16th one built for the North American market at the insistence of Max Hoffman, the then exclusive Importer Distributor for BMW and many other European makes.
In spite of its documented 422,250 miles of travel since it's build date of September 5th, 1969 it still "goes like stink", as an old German expression might describe its present day performance. How so--well--just this last week it was fitted with a fresh 1989 M30 3.5L with a Hans Hermann camshaft and fed by a pair of 38/38 downdraft carbs. It now delivers the true meaning of the expression "torque is what makes the wheels turn".
Just ask Chris Macha his impression of driving the BLUMAX as recently as yesterday!
