Does a 73 have all that EGR-equivalent stuff on it, which should be bypassed anyway? Also are carbs in sync. DeQ recc running a vacuum line from the base of one carb to the other to equal out the vacuum. This worked for me along with altering the idle mixture a bit when I had the same problem.

Turns out two things were causing the issue. One was a leaking brake booster and the second was resetting the floats and adjusting the chokes. Thanks everyone for your help and comments. Much appreciated
