Thanks Johnny D,

Are the E3 door pull/ armrests interchangeable to the E9?
I was led to believe they were.
If you are talking about the whole armrest the E3 is shorter, doors are shorter, so armrests overall are shorter. I think the top plastic bit and its chrome insert are smaller as well, but do not bet on it.

I’ve seen the chrome trim from E3 armrests in E9s. Don’t think there’s lots of modifications happening there.

Wrong again, check the parts book, 51411815283.
I can see why some of you are easily confused, but the E3 parts list shows 51 41 1 813 621 as the front left black arm rest. Why they list the 283 number as well is anybody's guess, but I suspect its as a replacement part. Listing on these currently avail parts lists on line is no guarantee of originality, just that it might fit the original application.

It would be nice if someone with an E3 would weigh in with an actual overall dimension. I have had many E9s and a few E3s but its been some time ago, but based on my own experience I recall the E3 as being shorter.

@Dick Steinkamp Thank you for providing a photo of your 3.0 Bav armrest. Measurements are the same as my e9 armrest.

I think the possible confusion comes from there being two Schwarz e9 part numbers, one for 2800CS (51 41 1 804 975) and one for 3.0CS (51 41 1 815 283) but the actual armrests are the same. This also applies to the e3, there is one part number for 2500/2800/3.0 Bav (51 41 1 804 975 and 51 41 1 806 927 for later 2500/2800 and 51 41 1 813 621 for 3.0 Bav with electric windows only) and another for 3.0S/3.0Si/3.3 (51 41 1 815 283) but armrests are again the same. Perhaps the difference is the shade of Schwarz but who knows. Also, we know some have used the chrome plastic baseplate for the 3.0S/Si armrest on their e9 and it does fit.

As Chris and Chris have stated, the e3 chrome trim pieces fit the e9 armrests. I have them in my car:

It looks like VW T1 and Beetle were using the same carriage as for BMW E3/E9.

It would be interesting to know which length it should be as there are replacement parts for VW:

I am looking for the E9 chrome armrest parts (if anyone has any for sale - please PM me!)

- are E3 parts more readily available? From where?

Thanks!

Quite often E3 parts are to be find as NOS on eBay or eBayKleinanzeigen but also on the sites listed in the specific thread at FAQ section.

Thank you so much for your comment.

As I am still learning how to navigate this site and leaning about and being amazed by the wealth of information - I never thought of looking in FAQ for this information.

Having just explored FAQ I am blown away by the aggregation of helpful and informative detailed information and photos.

Wow! Thanks for pointing it out!

Chas--I have the chrome trim that goes under the long part of the armrest (11.5"). My armrests are now covered in leather and the alum strip at the end prevented me from using them. Chris Ohmes pic above shows the trim. Drew
