How much massaging does it take to achieve 240-250 HP out of an M30 3.5. What would such a rebuilt engine cost, complete with fuel injection? Is Mega squirt that much more cost and effort as it doesn't appear to be commonly used.

Hopefully this is relevant to this thread.

You would be hard pressed to get 250 out of a 3.5. Rebuilding the engine is at a minimum $10,000.00 and that’s you doing a lot of the work. Boring, stroking and massaging can push that in to the high teens, maybe $20,000.00 and that doesn’t include any upgrades like exhaust or intake. @sfdon will need to chime in but mega squirt alone has to be several thousands when you include the ecu, custom wiring harness, tuning, and dyno. And maybe you get 250.

correct info above- 240hp is a good number for a 3.5 with Schrick cam and MS and a good exhaust. Keep in mind that torque is the goal on a low reving engine. Single cam, 2 valve engines can be made into screamers by guys like Terry Tinny but it takes lots of effort and money.

MS for the m30 engine is all over ebay….

Hi all,

Thank you for the kind words on our client's E9 (whom many of you know).

Thanks also to HBChris for the help on updating the ad with CSL lingo. Our ad title shows it as a 3.0CS. Sorry for any confusion. Hopefully, we got it accurate. I'm a bit of noob to the E9 world too as we've only sold around 10 of them and I've only owned one before...always learning thanks to the Knights of the Roundel table here in the OC.

Regarding the VIN being withheld, we provide it to any serious/interested party. As a dealer that's fairly public, we've learned the hard way when unscrupulous folks across the globe, steel our photos and list cars as their own hoping to get deposit money from unsuspecting buyers. It sucks, but we've had it happen countless times. So, to protect the owner of the car and next owner, we hold back the VIN as much as possible as well as watermark the outside photos.

Regarding pricing, we've had a bunch of calls from folks wanting to know pricing. Most who know me know that I always transparent and list the price unless we aren't live yet. With this E9, the owner asked me to submit it to Bring A Trailer. They finally gave us a reserve last week and we moved forward. It will still be at least another few weeks to month before they assign someone to prepare the ad...then another few weeks after until it goes live. It may be 6 weeks before its live. We will wait it out unless someone is really interested and wants to come check it out and make a serious offer prior to it going live. Once it goes live, we are committed to following through with the auction.

Thanks everyone for the support.

Cheers,

Paul

FYI: Actually, we listed it last year a week before the Covid shut down...bad timing. In fact, we had a buyer who even hired Paul Cain to do a comprehensive PPI on 3/16/20 (which the results were excellent and the car seriously impressed Cain). That was the first day of serious country wide shut down. The buyer was in NY and in the financial industry. As a result, he decided not to do anything.

We took it off the market shortly thereafter and the owner embarked on another $10k+ of some upgrades/fixes (not including the Alpina-look wheels or full body paint correction and removal of the graphics). These repairs mostly included a full A/C system upgrade with both front and rear air as well as reconfiguration the center console.
