Am I likely to find a good used pair of rear window regulators with the sardine can motors? What should I expect to pay?
Thanks, Douglas

hard to find, but I would say for the pair, $200-$300USD.

I wouldn't kick the '74-style regs w/the newer motors out of bed. Would just need some re-wiring to work.

Of course, if you're going to go through all that trouble of replacing regs, might as well replace the sardines w/E28 rear motors.

Hi @DougE,

In an effort to make my coupe light and miserable, I intend to use fixed lexan windows. The CSL and 2.5CS had fixed brackets, as seen in my pic below.

So anyway, I have rear regulators and motors to sell, along with the wiring and switches. The motors are all gummed up, but I have a few spares I can throw in as well.

Shoot me a PM if interested.

what's wrong w/your rear regs now? Totally missing or are they the fixed type? Or are they just totally busted/worn out?

2.5CS were "economic" version so front is manual and rear is fixed.

I was hoping there is some emergency mechanism as I found a hole on each side in the rear trims and assuming this is a place for an allen key.
It was hard for me to imagine such an expensive coupe without B-pillar can't really take an advantage of that fact.

I was looking for some drawing in BMW part catalog and in the user manual but there is nothing about rear fixed windows.

@Markos picture is the first one where I can see how the frame looks like as the car is waiting for its time (other project's ongoing).

For my 73 3.0CS, the rear motors went kaput, so I started to find out what alternate window motors I could use. I purchased a set of regulators (toss) with motors (keep) out of an e28 but later found the motors out of several other marques fit as Bosch suppled them all. They are the same ones used in 911s with 8 gear teeth. I ordered these and will let the group know about the fit and quality...https://www.ebay.com/itm/Window-Regulator-Motor-Left-Front-For-PORSCHE-911-91162401441/401942513525?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D90073be7da6a417ab8bbb8a830bcf77f%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D303535198928%26itm%3D401942513525%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A9b3fa4ee-8d0e-11eb-b5dd-96abc4096005%7Cparentrq%3A67215fae1780aaf30ad8fbfaffd6b5f0%7Ciid%3A1

Your late 73 has improved motors and the swap is easy. Replacing sardine cans takes a bit of modding and wiring change. I haven’t found the e28 motors to provide much if any improvement over the 73 motors. And e24 motors will not work, the part numbers have been superseded. RealOEM even shows this and implies that they work on e12 which still had sardine cans through 1981.

I made a mistake in my post. The regs and motors are out of an e28. Post updated. Thanks again for the info Chris!
