Hi All,

I'm a little confused about the correct pattern for the sound deadening material on the inner wings / fenders in the engine bay, even after a lot of time looking about on the site.

From what I understand, correct me if I'm wrong - the original is as per this image below posted by Simufly a couple of months ago. This corresponds to the material on many horror stories I've seen in real life and online over the years.

Was anything else used ? I have some honeycomb material next to the heater fan inside the engine bay, above the firewall, but who knows if that's original - it looks similar to the smaller diamond pattern which I understand Christoph sells, (shown in the screenshot below). I see he has three options, a large honeycomb, a smaller diamond, and what looks to be smooth or maybe it has a subtle texture, I can't quite tell.

Any thoughts ? or experience with Cristoph's smoother option ?

Thanks,

Damien

There are also damping pads in the front cowl , eg the well in which the heater air intake and fan reside on my 1974 coupe. I don’t know if earlier coupe had these

Thanks for the response. Is that always the case ? I've never personally seen it, I've only ever seen what is shown in the first picture. Here's another example...

AFAIK it’s all the large honey comb. There are a few pics of passenger and driver side.
As you can see, it’s on the upper part of the cowl area as well as the lower area that is adjacent to the heater fan. This is all original

Ah I think I get it now, thanks Bfeng. It looks like the honeycomb pattern is on the underside so not always visible. I’m being offered the honey comb pattern stuff but the pattern is on the top, so it’s very visible.

Looks better without it. I will leave mine off when they paint my car (someday, before Mario and Chris’s retire).

I bought the honeycomb pattern from Christoph. They look good, packaged well. Will be putting it on during paint and body work.

i have PDF drawings that i made of some originals if anybody wants to make their own by purchasing the material. i like the look without the pads, so i'm leaving mine off.

I have used a heat/sound insulation stick-on product from DEI Engineering. State of the art in heat management. Applied to my Healey 3000, and, in my opinion, one of the hottest cabins ever. Check out their site. If my Coupe was dismantled, I would stick this stuff everywhere!
