Engine detailing on a 3.0

Has anyone identified a spot-on matching yellow paint for the dipstick? Both of mine are in need of painting.

On the dipstick, has anyone removed the rubber stopper? I was considering powder coating mine Yellow, but it appears to be fused to the dipstick and would melt during the curing if it won't come off without destroying it.

don't you dare !
it has been poured around it
instead of powder coating just try to paint it, it worked on mine

I think Bob walks around the house looking for stuff to powdercoat

You have that right, unfortunately my process does not seem to hold up through a Canadian winter. I think my oven temp swings up and down too much. I made a roof rack for my E46 wagon I am quite proud of, but have not been able to keep a finish on it through the Salty season. This years approach is POR-15 followed by a coating of plasti dip (For appearance).
(my third attempt) Good thing I have yet to coat too much of importance on the E9. Will be sending the suspension parts out.

i mentioned before the matt chrome plating finish,

here you can see the aspect, the "before" is a slightly corroded steel parts while the aluminium is only dirty

after mattchrome platting of the two steel parts the finish is much better and the corrosion protection too:

Following up on this topic, I need to ask how are the hose clamps supposed to be? Mine has all the types you could ever imagined existed... German, american, mexican... so I need to get all of them new, finding the closest ones I can get to original. I am refering mostly to the small clamps, for brake line hoses, gas hoses, etc.

Any descriptions or better still, pics?

Brief update... we scraped and painted the whole engine bay, added primer, the sound deadening material (Wurth material, almost identical if not fully identical to the one the car had), and the the Baikal blue paint. We have been gradually assembling everything, already plated or galvanized in the yellow tint. I think it is comming out fine. I will ad pics later.

Thanks,
Victor

Thanks Chris. I will pay a visit to my local BMW distributor and see if they have them.

David, most likely. Just buy all of one brand, they don't need to be BMW, the Gemis and Norma's are just as cool looking and much cheaper.

Could be wrong here, but I believe the style of worm clamps available now (BMW, Norma...) was not used back in the E9 days. Instead, the "old style" clamps' tightening screws used were the through type (completely removable and much liked the modern FI hose clamps) and not the self contained screws as used today's clamps.

Bert,

Probably true but try finding them, I have a few collected over the years but they are much smaller ones, haven't seen any larger ones.
