I have finally started the restoration process. My mechanic is not an expert in e9's but the shop works on many older imports. BTW I used this forum's suggestion any tried to get Sal from Rennsport to do the job but after 9 months of waiting, I decided to give my money to someone else.

First question of many to come. I have a new one piece fuel injector wiring harness, but the car uses the two piece and they seem slightly different. the two piece has a wire that goes to the coil and it is missing from the new one. Any suggestions ??

Use your new harness- it is wired internally for that power wire.
Where did you buy the new harness?

The new harness was in the trunk when i bought the car 30 years ago.

Question if there is no wire to the negative side of the coil how will it spark ?

Usually there is a wire from the distributor condenser to the the coil.

The wire goes to positive.

“it is wired internally for that power wire.”

The new harness does not use a power wire to the coil.
Old harness- that wire is #41. It goes to pin 86 on the main relay and activates the relay.

The 2nd generation harness is plug and play.
The 41 wire to the coil has been replaced by an internal wire.

Forget about the wire to the coil- it's not needed anymore. That is why it's not there.

I have a lot of general automotive knowledge, but I'm confused. If there is no power wire to the coil, how will it produce a spark ?

Has anyone converted from the two piece fuel injection wiring harness to the one piece ? I need some information on any additional wiring needed. (Like power to the coil). Also, at this point, I’m not 100% sure this is a BMW harness. I did find a receipt with the correct part number but there is a difference with missing connections in the new harness.

Ok an update...

Many thanks to @sfdon with the wiring harness.

The engine is now shinny :)

One question, my mechanic can not find the wire that goes to the sensor at the rear of the engine, See attached picture

Many thanks to this forum !!!

That wire is not part of the Djet engine harness
As Chris said, it is likely laying down by your starter. Two wires are together- one for your starter (black) and for your oil pressure sender (brown/green)
Look under your expansion tank- they come from the harness that runs along your fender from the firewall.

Just a heads up. Most insurance companies when they total a car the owner has a right to buy it back at a very low price and that with the money you settle on ould make it very worth while.
