First ever E9 seen in person

Does this count? Growing up, my favorite electric slot car was a black CSL, followed by a white/green 917. I completely forgot about my old slot cars over the years.

One beautiful sunny Sunday morning, I saw an immaculate Fjord CSi being lazily piloted down Valencia in SF. I chased that car on my bicycle until they parked. I was mesmerized, staring at her for what seemed an eternity, yet something seemed eerily familiar. I decided then and there that I'd eventually purchase one for myself.

One year later, I had purchased my very own 1972 Italian import Fjord CSi. Two years later, I added a basket case Baikal parts car to help out the '72 - that was almost five years ago now.

This past Christmas, I was visiting my parents and decided to scour their basement for my old slot car track. Lo and behold, they had saved everything! I pulled out the track, then the old box of cars, and there she was - my old black CSL! I had completely forgotten about her. It was now abundantly clear why that CSi in SF had struck such a chord 30+ years later - it was like being reunited with a beautiful past flame.

As you can see, instead of a train, I set the slot car track up around the tree so we could all have a bit of nostalgic fun!

edit: My dad had a Euro M635i growing up, so that might have influenced me just a bit!

Yes it counts. I really like the stories where an impression was made early in life. Its the story that sometimes gives meaning to our existence or our coupes.

Finally got see my first e9 and drive one this weekend. Not disappointed at all. Feces eating grin for the first hour or so. It was really fun to drive. I was at the receiving end for both children so this may rate third.

Yes, I remember my first drive as well--had to take a Ferry back. You are thinking to yourself 'is this real?' Smooth engine, big greenhouse and that long chassis gripped by trailing arms. From my experience the first three months is a bunch of exploration of good and bad....only in the end no matter how great or horrible your coupe might actually be, in your mind it is perfect.
