Frustrated....30 Year BMW owner quitting. E9 sunroof did it

:mad:. 1975 3.0CS sunroof was the one to do him in. My dad and I restored 2 of these 20 years ago. Owned several BMW models. Kid has a M3 Old Man has a 550....Really Folks am I looking at over $1500 to redo an electric sunroof on this car?.I should have kept my 2002's...dime a dozen for parts. Any ideas.?. I can do all the work but travel. Have a decent hack locally that knows the old bimmers but is getting pricey. 15% of my budget doing sunroof. Ha!.Maybe I'm just old and crotchety. Stay tuned... 22k fixer coming soon.

Found some good threads. Anyone who can throw me a bone for sunroof parts would be great. Thank you.

According to Hegarty's website , a sunroof adds 15% to the value ...so, even after fixing it you're still technically in front ! Voila, problem solved ! BTW , their most recent valuations show a bit of a spike in E9 values generally . Cheers, Simon
 
All four electric side windows down, cruising on the curvy road and then opening the electric sun roof for letting the nice sunshine filtered by treetops in to you ... Ain't that close to heaven? :-)
(i.e, fix the sunroof)

Nice comment to give to a guy who's frustrated,
but hey you don't care, you can make a buck off YOUR car, right?
Is that all the car hobby's about anymore?

(didn't get my oatmeal this morning so I'm cranky, I guess)

I'm in purgatory then. Slick top and only three windows work.

Whats wrong with your sunroof that has you so beat down?

BTW - The 2002 sunroof works the same way.
 
I am surprised a sunroof would add 15 percent to a coupe's value. I rarely use the sunroofs in my e39s and I did not want one when shopping for my coupe primarily out of concern for rust, headliner stains and potential mechanical issues.

Myfemur, we will burn some incense and slay some doves. Ooops, retract the doves. We don't do that anymore as we don't sacrifice first-born sons to some angry god.

For the Professionally Offended types, let me join the dots for you :-

1. The reference to the sunroof (supposedly )adding 15% to the car's value was simply to point out that it was probably worth fixing , particularly if he's going to sell it .What he decides to do in the end is his decision .He was seeking input and he got it.

2.Again, the "BTW" comment about a spike in values was just an observation that I was passing on to the Forum as it is relevant for insurance and the like .But, I daresay it's a consideration if the guy is selling (!!)

And for the record, I've had my car for nearly 30years so I'm not your Mike Brewer "flipper" .

Always liked sunroofs as they greatly aid in ventilating the cabin of 1960/70 era BMWs. Open the sunroof and crack the far side rear quarter window a couple inches.

They inevitably require maintenance and attention above and beyond cRs without sunroofs

I've never bought an old bimmer unless it had a sunroof.

To each his own.
