I see there are some wheels that have Alpina RAISED letters
and some with INDENTED letters.
I didn’t see an discussion on that issue here, did I miss that?

Another question..
Is this thread saying that some Alpina wheels have NO Alpina letters?

One more question please...
You can see the wheel below is rough. Do you think it is worth trying , or even possible to save it?

Yep see post #5 above for a fuller explanation of the engraved versus the raised lettering.

Well a 100% straight and unbuckled set of refurbished FPS with new caps sold for £600.00 last year. Is an Alpina engraving worth the extra?
Buyers choice.

This is a continuation of the "is it isn't it a genuine Alpina wheel".So to summerise what I have found out after extensive research considering ONLY 14x7 spoked wheels for older BMWs. It is a given that the original colour is polaris and the centre satin black. It is not unusual for the black to extend by a few mm onto the front face of the wheel

1st generation. only 5 mounting holes. Alpina in raised lettering on the front face. Not made by Ronal.
2nd generation. 5 mounting holes plus 5 extra smaller holes. Alpina in raised lettering. Made by Ronal.
3rd generation. Ditto Ditto. FPS in raised lettering.
4th generation. Ditto. Ditto. Ditto. PLUS Alpina engraved on face.
5th generation. Ditto. Ditto. FPS raised lettering. Ridged spokes
6th generation. Ditto. Ditto. Alpina in raised lettering. Not made by Ronal.

It seems clear that the second generation is considered the "correct classic e9" wheel (shod with 195/70 XWX!)
There are subtle differences in design (and colour) between all the different generations of wheel, the most obvious being the fifth gen ones with the ridged spokes which went on to much later models. The current ones available from W&N are the 6th gen mentioned above. I cant remember who makes them but I suspect it is BBS. Confirmed below BBS is the maker!

sorry to raise an old thread but I’m still having trouble deciphering what wheels I have. @Simufly obviously you will know best as you would have bought and installed them, but for clarification purposes:

1. I believe this is the BBS made wheel available as new from W & N. Is that correct?

2. But what about this one. Which of the above list does this belong to?

Thanks Simon. That makes sense of the pictures. Therefore picture 1 is gen 6, picture 2 is gen 2.

I need to get another for the spare...looks like the Gen 6 is probably the most cost effective one to go for.
Correct. Yes You might find it difficult to find a angle used gen 2 wheel so the W&N solution would be the way to go.

Apologies for resurrecting this thread again but I'm also scratching my head over this wheel. The "Alpina" lettering is different to others I've seen. Is this a "gen 2"? I also can't make sense of the second number in the date stamp. What was the time period for the rims that had Ronal stamped on them? Cheers

this is the last of the vintage version - the first 3 were '5' hole. the '10' hole started in 75 (i believe). you can still buy 14" alpina (10 hole) wheels new. W+N generally has them. there is more information on the variations in the FAQ - tires + wheels

this is a 5 hole
