hi there

very nice forum 1st of all. Secondly, who out there can point me in the right direction for super RARE Alpinas from the late '60s ?? reason being, I've heard rumors of 3 super rare 2000 CS cars that were sent to the Alpina factory back then to be turned into Alpina cars & then extra parts etc were added. This was prior to the 3.0 CS & 3.0L engine. These 3 ( let's call them GHOST cars) were built & just before they were put onto the track, the 3.0L came out & the "ghost cars" were stored away & forgotten in a sense.
Round about the same time, 1 of the 'Ghost cars" were taken out on the Nurburgring & writen off ( colour of this car was WHITE were as the other 2 were blue in colour )...... the remaining 2 "Ghost cars" were left alone & 1 of the 2 went to the USA into a collection & the other 1 went "missing".

As I've said this is a rumour & I want to know if there's ANY truth to this???

If so....... I might know where the "missing" "Ghost car" is.

thank you

....Just to add, most of these ''Rumours'' I got from an Old test driver of BMW who used to work @ Alpina when he was younger......

....So any info etc of these ''Ghost cars'' will be greatly appreciated.thank you

If you know where the car is or "think you might know" why not take a few photos and post it? My guess would be you currently own that car, are trying to figure out if it's worth alot before you list it and unload the car. Also are the photos you have posted supposedly of the ghost car? I cant imagine Alpina using wire wheels on their cars rather than their spoked wheels.

Ha ha ha.... It is indeed...& yes....I do own the car.... The picture is when ownership was less than 1 week old back in '69.

The Car is currentlt standing less than 5 feet from me.

The Wheels are stainless steel spoked Borrani Wheels.

Btw, The car WON'T be for sale for quite some time to come..... I'll sell my '61 Chevrolet Impala SS convertible before I sell this Alpina ;)>

Thx 61* , I've had my eye on that thread for quite awhile.

The car has numerous Alpina insignia & parts on & in it that is waaaay different than the normal 2000CS.

As far as I know the normal 2000CS' engine only goes to 6600rpm.....where as this 1 goes to 7700rpm. We also had the car once go 252km/h over the marked off Mile back in '70.

So once again I ask if some1 somewhere has any info regarding these ''Ghost Cars''.

Looks like I gotta get my hands on that Special models BMW Book ;)>

Btw....the Borrani wheels came with the car & also nothing has changed on it since back in '69 when ownership was taken. Had it out on the road again today..... Still ticking like a watch..... A very loud & fast watch that is ;)

Thx for the email info. Will follow it up. We did send Alpina an email a couple of years back....& they couldn't then get any record of the Vin...... Let's hope this time they'll be sorted out ;)

Will do soon. Car went into storage again earlier today. But now all my thoughts are going out to those folks in the US & especially those in the New York area

You might be taken more seriously and more members will go out of their way to help you if you are honest and straight forward from the beginning rather than making up a story of knowing where the car may be when in fact it is a car you own. It might be only me but that really rubs me the wrong way. It would be helpful if you post photos, especially of the special Alpina parts on the car.

I think Wednesday would be a good day to start a search for a good Ghost Car story. As for photos it would be nice see what makes it special because the wheels don't do it for me. Owner since 1969 what was the miles when purchased and what is on it today also are you the 2nd owner?

As I've said, car is in storage as of yesterday & I will post pics when I take it out again. Car had around 10000kms on the clock when ownership was taken over. If the wheels do it for you or not, ain't my worry....those are the wheels that came with it & the sparewheel is the same. Thx for those last pics aswell

How about pictures from before, I am sure cameras existed in 1969 and throughout 2012.
Or from the other day when the car was 5 feet from you?

Kind of reminds me of the guy looking at the "Wanted" pictures in the police station and asking the policeman why didn't they catch these people when they took their pictures.
