@aearch,

Responding to our PM thread here for the greater good. After re-examining the bracket, I concluded that it needs to come off to measure properly. It isn’t L-shaped. When you put the flat stock in your metal brake or vise, it needs to go in at an angle.

I am going to remove the part and do a trace. I got
the ugly screw out suprisingly, and I am midway through drilling the other screw. I pretty much destroyed my drill bits on the parts car and a summer fabrication project, so I need to pick up another set today. Their ability to drill through still is pretty much gone.

More in the next day or two. Also, the metal is quite thin, maybe 20 or 22 gauge. It served as a spring clip. You can remove the glove box by bending the bracket.

Actually it isn’t designed like that at all. As mentioned it isn’t an L, and isn’t perpendicular to the top. I still need to pick up some drill bits to finish removing mine. I’ll swing by the hardware store today.

Only crappy pic I have, it’s an L, held by a screw if you mean outer one.

I was trying to articulate that it isn’t as simple as @aearch ’s drawing. It is L shaped, but it is not straight. Now that I have new bits, take a look.

Alan, I will trace the part later and send dimensions. This is from my car. I never drilled the head off due to the funny operating angle, but I was able to pop the head off with a pry bar. I have some other brackets but they won’t work.

Mine uses Phillips screws

Same with mine. That whole area of my dash was leaking which is why I had to drill mine out.

@aearch,

Rather than measuring this, I’ll just send you the template. Perhaps you can draw it up nice and repost. We’ve mailed each other plenty of stuff but shoot me a PM with your address again. Thanks!

This is a trace, so the inner side of the line is dimensional. Also, one of the holes really is a bit flat on mine.

Sure thing. You are correct about it being perpendicular. If my car it looked like it wasn’t but taking it out helped. It’s a funny shape so I am glad that you will have the proper dimensions. Also, the metal is 1mm thick.
