Head light adjuster screw plastic caged Nut

Hello Guys
I am not sure if that is what is called But that is the best description I come up with. I am referring to the hard plastic nut that is inserted into the headlight assembly and the adjuster screw goes through it . There are two adjusters for each bulb (4 each side , 8 Total for each car) on mine few are broken.

Any suggestion for a replacement nut?

I assume you asked BMW already and it's not availalable ( anymore) ?

Google 'Rivkle Elastic' from the company Bollhoff. It's a brass female thread encapsulated in rubber that might just fit snugly in place....
Also the company Ejot supplies plastic plugs that offer same functionality.

Trick is to find one that has correct size to lock in depth, and prevent rotation around the axis of the screw.
The functional thing is, that when screwed in our out, the angle of the screw versus the headlight frame changes a bit. So ideally the part should allow this freedom.

Or use on of those hollow wall nuts, that expand when placed under tension. Think they could be mounted so that they stay in place & allow the bolt to go through it.
Budget solution (dare I say it?) ; won't a simple (oversized) plug not do the trick?

Have you used this yourself for the application? The design of the adjuster screws is as such that the nut will be either pushed against the metal frame when the adjuster screw is turned counter-clockwise , or pulled away from the frame when the adjuster screw is turned clockwise. Also since the gap narrows and widens during the adjustment the nut has to have some movement so it can tilt sidways....
If the ones you listed work it will be very Nice surprise !!

I am not following you ... are you saying these nuts are available for E3 ? My assumption is that headlight buckets are identical on E3 and E9.... if so It is a safe assumption on my part to say they are the same....

I am saying that because they are the same (I think) on the E3, and there are more E3 parts there should be some available
I might have some but it might be a long time before I know, I need to put my car together before I part with any
I did notice the springs on the E3 were different, but maybe someone had changed them, I think where was some other small differences
 
Buckets are the same, but not the black, bucket holders, each holding the 2 lamps on each side.
I am 99% sure on this.

They are the same on the e3 and e9, but there are different versions of the same part, and they have different (minor) physical characteristics.
 
true, i remember some variations between a left side / right side that came from the same car. we know that the adjuster nut was different in later cars (white plastic nut). i sent the spare pair to a forum member in need, and we discussed the differences in the pics. i don't remember them now ... they were very minor.

So far I haven’t concluded if there is or not an alternative for the plastic nut...

Buckets are identical other than the adjusting screw/ knob, early cars were small and black, later cars were long and white. I had both styles in my coupe when I bought it 13 years ago.

no I haven't tried any of it myself. I was suggesting how I would solve it, if no standard new or used part turns up.

I understand that the plastic part indeed remains in place, allowing the screw to pull/push and rotate the headlight bucket. Just thought I needed to highlight that secondary (angle) effect, as one might be tempted to simply weld on a nut. Which wouldn't work smoothly I think.

I keep looking at the photos you attached and brainstorming about an alternative. It may be possible to modify some of the pieces you showed to do the trick. I wonder if I bought an assortment of the right thread size and I try them out!
I was able to get to the website from the Brand names in your pictures but couldn’t find the pieces anywhere .. can you send the direct link to the items ?

Hi Guys. I went 50 miles today to get one of these nuts. The one I have is from a 2002 and it's in a shape of a rectangle. The one in the photo looks square.
Please let me know and I will ship it to you in the morning.
