The problem with salt water (really any flood water) is that it soaks the wires and gets inside every connection and while the components can be dried out, there are so many connections in newer cars and the electronics are so sensitive, eventually the number of electrical gremlins and failures will simply overwhelm an owners ability (patience and money) to keep up with repairs.
