Hood cable snapped tonight

at the ferrule on the hand release. The parts diagram shows a "bush" and bowden cable.

For anyone who's had this problem and bought the part- I'd rather have the cable assembly with the ferrule swaged on rather than me doing it on a bench.

Do I need both parts to make one or is the cable complete?

Lucky it happened there - I've wondered what would happen if it snapped inside - how would you get the hood open?

Springs in the 2 locks

I think these would release the catches, and hence allow you to open the bonnet/hood

a Porsche. You actually have to drill out the covers to to brake fluid resevoir and fish for the latch. I've heard and seen cars that guys cut a piece of floor out.:confused: Sometime after 64 they started putting an access plug in. Times change- check out Amelia Island's auction on Porsche- some serious money. There was a 2002 that sold too.

The BMW fails open. So no worries.

I can order the parts. But any bicycle shop has ferrules. I just can't tell from the parts description if the cable is complete or you have to make it up from two parts anyway.

J - happened to me on a road trip to S. Cal. IIRC the new cable comes with a crimped end piece and the bushing just slides onto the other end of the cable. It is a bit tricky getting it into the lever assembly. I think I unbolted it so I could turn it around and manipulate it.

The other end is fine.. still clamped up.

Oh well, good reason to detail up those catches and clean up the bilge.:!:

I've seen hydrualiic crimpers and didn't want to pay for a $200 tool for one time use on a 6mm cable.

See ref. part in the link. I bought it and fits perfectly.
Don't loose the bush in the handle that tight the whole thing.
As good as originall for 6.69 GBP.

That's

the part. The wire snapped clean at the end of that fitting on release. Ordered the part today. ( Well just had two add a thing or two.)

The wire comes with the ferrule already molded to the end. Not expensive straight from the dealer.....
