How to sell a coupe

I have a 72 e9 that I have dreamed of restoring for years. I really wish I could do that but I may not have the time and money that it requires, sadly. So I ponder what is the best way to sell it and the best forum.
The car is not running due to an engine problem, which can of course be fixed but it can't be driven anywhere presently. The body has some rust on the front pillar area, not easy but could be repaired for a price. And the interior needs work. Is it better to sell it intact or part it out? What method brings the highest dollar. And perhaps parting out, which effectively kills my car from ever seeing the road again, is alot of hassle with prices, negotiations and shipping. I wonder what is the total of her parts worth?
Else, how to get a good price for it's present condition. Good price doesn't mean a sky high price but it has to be reasonable to me and not preclude someone from their project. And where is the best site? Is a car club forum best where there are passionate car owners or the crazy ebay bid against others site?
I hope you will share some of your experience with me.

The best way to sell it is to take accurate photos of all the good and more importantly bad points. I would never buy a Coupe without lots of hoist shots, the trunk stripped down, the back seat removed, etc.

There are often interested buyers on this Forum, post photos as Bob has said and provide your location as well as any history regarding your coupe. Describe the engine problem as well.

Only part it out of rust is severe

A few years ago I parted out a coupe. It needed inner and outer front fenders and the outer rockers were both shot. At that time it was not economically viable to save it and I cannot do bodywork myself.

I bought it for 2500 (without bumpers) and I made my money back selling the shifter surround, taillights, dash wood, all glass, manual window regulators, windshield wipers, under dash panels, door cards, AC panel, etc. The drivetrain parts are not really of much value. I gave away the rest of the car to a couper in south caroilna for a a someday rat rod project.

In 2014, I think I could have easily sold the car complete for 4 or 5k and someone could have revived it. But that is be because coupe prices are up 50-100 percent in the last few years.

Photos

My coupe is about ready to go to market. There will need to be many photos and I don't want to clog the servers of this site. We share information here. Where is a good place to post them. I would need to be able to post a link. I don't want anyone else to edit the photos and prefer a free site that will not look foolish. Any suggestions.

If you have a Google identity you can host using Picasa. Then just post the link. You can have private pictures accessible to approved people and public pictures for all of us to criticize :).

I have not seen the car but I can start the critique anyways:
- How come the engine does not run?
- Is that blue paint original

Good luck!

Post it in cars for sale on this site. Start with a few pics and work from there. If your car has value to anyone on this site just double that and you should have a retail price...;-)my guess is 2 to 4 thousand in easy parts and 3 to 5 thou for the car. That's what we coupers keep in our pockets as petty cash for this sitch.:D

Surely you can get more $ome where other than a site where the market is NOT flooded, most of us already own coupes, so we can afford to be judgemental......once you start here tho there may be no return. Someone will surely find your listing and link to here. If you are geographically close to someone on this site you will get $some action.

Ok, that's my free 2 cents.

Post an ad in the Cars section and 10 photos in your post, then add another post with up to 10 more, repeat. Don't worry about the space requirements.

Dealing with all the comments from forum members will prepare you for negotiating with potential buyers. ;-)

Assuming the valuable parts (bumpers, grilles, taillights, interior) are in good condition, you probably could get more for the pieces than for the intact car. But if those parts are rough, then discount that "parting_$ > intact_$" equation.

Be aware that parting out a car is a huge job. Removing the pieces, cataloging them, taking photos, posting on ebay (or wherever), writing descriptions, answering questions, packaging, shipping, getting stiffed on payment, ..... all take a LOT of time. If you don't have time to restore this car, then you probably don't have time to part it out.
