Is the kidney grille supposed to be flat or follow the angle of the nose?

I always hated the fact that my grille was much flatter than the curve of the nose. So I bent it to conform a little better but now the mounting bolts are angled inwards and are a bit closer together which means that they won’t align with the mounting holes in the nose anymore.

I looked at a few pictures of grilles for sale and several are very flat looking as well. So they wouldn’t match the pointy end of the nose panel either. Like this one for example:
Is it supposed to be flat?

i was thinking of simply bending those bolts support brackets out a bit but the aluminium is already full of bumps so I was wondering if there was a more elegant way.

I wouldn’t bend anything. The plastic grilles are larger and stick out a bit more due to their shape. I don’t remember which one you have. Oops, you have the earlier grille.

There was only one kind of grill for the E9, the 5 slat alloy type. And the 5 black alloy/ anodized slat type, know as the Csl grill was also on the 74/75 coupes. The 4 black plastic slats was for the E3 and not E9.

Only very recently a member who owns a 75 Csi and owned a 74/75 Csl Bat, both with 5 black slat kidney grills confirmed that both are with original grills. And the Csi is a US car.......
Heres a pic of Christoph’s original 75 coupe.......
