KW Coilover Suspension Kit for E9

We have removed several BC Coil over set ups from E28 chassis cars. They gave absolutely the worst ride I have ever experienced in a BMW.

YMMV

Mario L.

I can vouch for this. I have replaced rear BC Racing shocks with KW and it improved a lot.

My problem is that I have modified original front struts for BC Racing, and KW does not take modified struts if you want to switch to KW. I tried to google for original front struts, but only found right one and that is like 800 euros already. Left one, can't find anywhere. Also it would become extremely pricey to buy first oem struts for 2000 euros and then sent them to KW. Any recommendations? I'd like to go KW in front too but not sure if that's possible anymore..

Hello, Sir.

From what I remember, when I contacted KW about their suspension for the E9, they didn't require the donor front struts to be new.

It's important that they aren't bent from any road accidents.

They asked me to send them the donor front struts. They were supposed to inspect them, and if they were found to be too badly damaged, they were to notify me.
If they were in good condition, they would begin the modification.

Best regards,

Lucas.

Problem is that BC Racing shocks are welded into strut and original tube for oem shock has been removed. They don't accept that.

There's really nothing you can do about those BC set.
If I were you, I'd buy a used front struts from a reputable seller, removed from a donor car and send it to the KW for modification.

You can buy a used set in good condition for 400-600 Euro.

Or You can buy complete KW set from Kleinanzeigen seler:

Yep, I would do that I could find a seller and decent price. I just couldn't find any..

I guess E12 struts work with E9 too? I did find couple sellers for E12 front struts. Maybe I could buy those and send them to KW. Anyone done that? Would that work?

I thought you were only interested in new parts.

I have a friend who has a complete CSI suspension for sale.

Wow, thanks! Now if I could find another side too..

I somehow missed your earlier ebay link for full set with struts. That would be perfect if I wouldn't have already bought the rear shocks. Maybe I'll throw him an offer..

Thanks again.

I do not think so, even 74 and on e3 struts have a different spindle angle.

Oh hmm. I wonder why they sell those struts on kleinanzeigen for all 4 models, E3, E9, E12 and E24 if the angle is different.

I won't advise you on this topic because I don't have detailed knowledge of the differences and common parts between individual models. I don't want to mislead you. I'm sure there are people on this forum with much more knowledge than me when it comes to individual suspension components.

I think the link above solves your problem.

It seems to say that steering arm uses M8 for 2800CS and M10 for 3.0. Gland nut can be M48 or M50 .. without any logic, but there are adapters.. And spindle angle can be modified with wheel alignment and/or camber plates.. So I guess all of them work but might need small modifications..

RealOEM is a useful tool but has many inaccuracies. Later struts will increase negative camber but the amount is unknown. In total I think there are three or four different e3/e9 struts.
