Looking for project car for restoration

Hello Everyone!

I been searching for a E9 to restore for a long time (one that I can afford), but haven't found one yet and wanted to post it here, probably the best place to ask.

I am located in Sweden and finally I got a garage where to restore a car. Now trying to find a project, of course I would love to have a E9 but if my budget doesn't allow it I am open to suggestions.

Alberto, have you considered a round tail light, early 2002tii? Here at the end of my run I have owned, sequentially and in various states of repair from track ready to parts car rust bucket, a 1600-02 four Bavarias, four Coupes and now a pristine, all original 84k mile 76 2002. I have grown to love that boxy little beauty over the last three years as much as any of the others. But as I said, I am at the end of my run.

Thanks for replying, yes I am looking also for 1600 - 2002 and E30's. My dream car is an E9 but I just want to wrench.

I have contact a couple of guys, found a really nice E9 but was too expensive, it is a project and needs full restoration but it's a solid chassis.

I am looking also at a E30 with a little bit of rust here and there but overall looks good, the engine is blown so will need a new one, probably a good starting point for a project?

Have you considered the BMW e3 Bavaria. One of the most beautiful sedans of the 70s. And way cheaper than the e9.

An E30 would be a great first project. They are popular but still relatively inexpensive. Many to choose from. Parts are available (new and used). They are appreciating. Many performance mods for suspension and drivetrain are available. If nothing else, it would be good practice for the eventual E9.

Yes Alberto , mine is for sale .... perfect driver who can use some restoration but nothing really bad .
New !! engine 3.5l M30 with only 6000 km , overhauled dogleg gearbox, LSD
New suspension , etc.... car drives super .

Do you have experience restoring cars?

Hi there! I have done a couple engine swaps, but no restoration projects, I am for sure going to learn by doing, but, how else can one learn if not trying new things.

Actually I like this idea, I don't think I have the money for a E9 yet. Will try to start with something just for the love of wrenching and hopefully one day will get the E9.

I found this one, what do you guys think? The engine is damaged, so will need a new engine.

Must be a 318i? Too rusty and needs much more than a new motor. If it were an e9 than no worries but the e30 will never be worth what you will have to invest in this one.

That e30 has e9 levels of rust. I'm not sure the e30 market would support such an extensive rust restoration.?.

There are WAY too many E30s out there to start with one that rusty and in that mechanical and cosmetic condition.
