My E9 CSL Fjord Blue Restoration Chassis No. 2285292

Hi all,

After purchasing my CSL back in December 2017 and parking it up in a container until August 19 Ive finally got round to start my restoration.

The vehicle hasn't been on the road in over 20 years as it was an unfinished project from the last owner who ran out time and enthusiasm. A lovely chap who I purchased it off though someone on this site.

So I thought I would show you some pictures now I'm 3 months in, Pictures should be in order oh and a lot of them are of the strip so I can remember how it came apart.

1st job was to sort out the terrible door gaps, I hate it when panels don't align, Door gaps set with the doors built up and they always drop a little when they are fitted out with all the glass etc, Also important to fit the chrome trim so all this aligns as you don't want to find out it doesn't when it been painted. Pictures of further body stripping wheel arches and engine Bay Area, also 1st coat of a resin primer to seal it all. Lots of the old paint was peeling off so fully removed.

Hi all,

Its been awhile since being back on the forum and I've managed to have a couple of days on my build, Engine in after having full rebuild, Cylinder head has been CNC flowed and a little Schrick cam added for some fun, All new rockers, rails and tappets etc. Inlets have all been match to the cylinder head and gaskets opened up, As you can see by the pictures a ot of material has been opened up to allow this. We've also had to machine a tiny bit off the top off the pistons to allow for the valve clearance as this was getting a little tight plus an adjustable camshaft sprocket to get the timing correct.

Throttle bodies seem to fit really well, Don't worry purists I've kept all the original Bosch D Jet injection and everything else just incase. I know this will not be to many other peoples taste but its my car and I want it reliable and hassle free to enjoy on a regular basis.

What Schrick cam have you gone with if you were worried about piston clearance?

Hi,

I will dig out the code for the cam as I purchased it a year ago I can't remember of the top of my head. It wasn't a crazy high lift but because of the standard pistons being raised and refacing the head the gap was close l less then 0.5mm so though best to machine the pistons slightly for more clearance at high revs and when hot. The last pictures of the pistons show the clearance using the putty stuff. The block has had liners fitted to it so it original piston size, you can't even tell its got a liner in it's s been done so well.

This will also protect the block for anything in the future as the block is still number matching to the car. The D jet injection creates bore wash so the when rebuilding these you always end up going up piston sizes and finding a piston to go up 2 sizes was difficult and didn't want a custom made piston.

Here in the Uk all Jaguar engines were produced with liners in from original and it's simple to do.

Adjustable cam pulley fitted to get the camshaft timing spot on and rocker arms machined for the extra lift as clearance was extremely tight against the new oil spray bar.

Flywheel and clutch have also been balanced

Great work, just rebuilding my CSI engine at the moment, I wish my workshop was as pristine as yours.

Hi all,

Today I've managed to get the water pump fitted, Alternator mounting brakes on, Exhaust Manifolds fitted (clearance is good) and gear lever stick mounted onto the frame.
