Anyone have a new AC Expansion Valve with the flared (not O-ring) fitting? Looks like Penske and Real-OEM have them new for $90 or so but I cannot tell if these are flared or not.

Thanks

Looks pretty close. I ordered my compressor from these guys. I called around to the usual suspects and it looks like these are available new from Germany. However, at 90 + shipping, these alternatives at $20 are worth a shot.

Yes, I bought mine from the dealer. Should be OEM if the rest of the system is

Hello!
I bought this one:

Very similar to the original, copper tubing a bit longer but that had no practical significance.

Henrik

Yes, that is the one I got as well. Yes tube is a little long but does not affect function. Use oil compatable with the freon you are using when assembling copper flare fittings (rub oil on contact surfaces) and be very careful to get them tight as going back is not much fun. BTW the copper flares are still available. The company that filled and tested my sytem was able to order them. Sorry I don't know the supplier. Google is your friend.

Top Tip
Before assembling: heat the old copper flare fittings and tubing flanges until they are red hot, and let them cool down slowly. The copper will get soft again and can be reused with the same qualities as new.

Crush

washers at NAPA. Ask Jeff for the part number. Hell, he might have some left over... along with spares from the parts car that got crushed too.

When i did mine the napa guy said they were dc'ing them but maybe a local store will still have some lying around.

Right on - thanks Jerry. I purchased the 16x18" parallel flow condenser and a 14" low profile fan. Also the driers and a Sanden style compressor. I have a 633 engine in storage that has the bracket I need and it has a compressor on it - but I think it's for R134. Thoughts? Did the 633csi run an R12 system? Maybe I can just use that compressor.

Cheers

A 633 would have been R-12. Getting hard to get and very expensive.
So you only have to do this once go to 134.
I did the parallel flow condenser as well. Works pretty good for the right side of you body.

At $20 a can for R12 on the "craigslist market" in Houston the extra cooling capacity is worth it I think. I found someone last year that 20 cans and bought them all :-)

Thanks for the info on the 633csi system. I will take that one off and clean it up and see how it looks. A new sanden style compressor and adapter bracket from the guy on Ebay aren't that expensive either.

Cheers

+1 the r-12 market here is cheap also, when a couple cans come up for sale I grab them for future, usually around $10 each these days on CL.

I own an 88 E28 M5 and it has been converted to 134 as well as the coupe. The M5 will freeze you out.
I don't think you would find much difference in the cooling
ability. Just saying............

Hi Steve,

Totally changing the subject - did you get to meet up w/ Steve Fisher - "Datsun guy" when he came through New Orleans? He stopped in w/ me for a few days after.

Cheers
James

Yes he stayed with us for 4 nights separated by his side trip to nyc. So you are the one he was staying with in the Heights? If so you live around the corner from my brother in law who loves coupes (13th and Cortlandt). We went driving in my car because i couldn't fit in his and he posted some pics of our cars in his blog (including the webers!)
