Next insane hobby - wood boat

No issues and didn’t sink! Loud AF

Steve, that is freaking awesome. My good friend has a family place on Squam Lake in New Hampshire (where they filmed "On Golden Pond". ) There are soooooo many fine wooden boats up there. Yours is completely badass. Love it.

This is a modern wooden boat that I’ve lusted over.

As for a steering wheel... I have a beautiful MotoLita that would look good on it :)

After 4 months of sorting and getting to know the boat and engine (complete ignition and starter overhaul, steering linkage tightening etc etc) it had it’s maiden to me voyage. No issues and didn’t sink! Loud AF  Now I can start driving the car again!

Beautiful!!! At least you do not have to mess up with suspension work :).

What a Beauty your boat is Steve, I have the exact 180 degree opposite boat, that should still be here 350 years from now.. even if unloved. . 100% welded 3/16ths plate aluminum Stanley Mink, made in Bobby Orr's home town of Parry Sound.

I am in the "life is short-don't let details hold you back" period of my life - I am not particularly concerned about trailer preservation, it's 24 years old, galvanized, and if it falls apart I'll replace it with a dual axle one, probably will anyway before taking it to Vermont in the summer. I flush the engine with fresh water, use Salt-Away, clean clean etc.
Hey Steve - your boat is gorgeous. And if you want to break up your trip to and/or from Vermont, feel free to stop in.

Took the insanity on the road to Mt. Dora Florida for the antique boat festival. The highlight so far has been cruising through the Dora canal (apparently they filmed some scenes here for the Bogart/Hepburn movie African Queen) which connects Lake Dora to Lake Eustis then we motored through another canal to have a group lunch on Lake Harris.

Cool but I'll stick with the 5.7L American iron that's in there now. I went into O'Reilly and got all the tuneup parts I needed. Adjust the 2 mix screws on the 4 bbl Holley and it's a beast.
There were a lot of BMW powered boats in the 1980s Australia. They were inboard / outboards using both M10 and M30 engines. I think the M30 was stroked to 3.6 liters with carburetors.

Yeah I've seen those and are cool but not enough grunt for my juvenile liking, mine originally came with a 431 Lincoln/275hp but those are difficult to find parts for now. Some came with the 413 Chrysler 280hp when Ford was on strike. I have located an original 1962 413 that I might rebuild/bore out/hot rod to 440ci and 350hp which, according to various forumistas, is pretty easy to do. Same block on 413, 426 hemi, and 440 except the marine blocks had higher nickel content for added strength.

We belong to a private "island in the Sacramento Delta area. Been there since the 1920s. We have a floating home there (another restoration story for another day!) . Anyway, every year we host the ACBS (American Classic Boat Society) BBQ. Some gorgeous runabouts there!!
