Yes they’re hard to push on. Warm them with a heat gun or hair dryer to make them a bit more pliable.
AhhhhhhhhhhGlad you asked. It’s AKA door latch “buffer”. Without the doors take more effort to fully latch. When they’re old they get hard split and fall off. They cost about $3 each.

The doors on the 2002 and the E9 have them. Some people will use a piece of clear plastic hose to cover that part of the latch. The doors really have to be slammed hard to shut without them. Steve's name of "lock buffer chiclet" is the best I've heard in almost 50 years...Thank you for the explanation and photos. I don't recall those on my locks when I disassembled. I better order a few.
