yes, it all fits. The unit sometimes fits at slight angle. We are refining install instructions with new projects. We have turnkey instructions and pics for other cars just don't do as many coupes but have 3 in facility now ready for final step of modern AC / heat install

Need to take more of our approaches. Fits easily simple. Only part of install we have not documentd is how to fit the new cables we ship to existing slide controls in E9. The AC and non AC console plates slightly different

Is a simpler much better option then anything we know of. Comes with pretty solid instructions but as we finish 3 projects in house will be even more detailed on control cables. Replaces heat and air so lots of space

different approach - Oldenzaal kit if for cars that didn't have A/C to begin with. what Don puts together is all of the stuff to improve the existing A/C and bring it up to a more modern system. i believe the evaporator doesn't change.
 
AH i see- i curently have ac- not good though. Apparently the blower control or the temp control knobs ( cant remember what the tech said several years back) uses an old type resistance mech and it doesnt work well. Just looking to see how to get it improved. Not sure who Don is as I am a newbie

The NLA ceramic blower switch is always corroded, cracked and nonfunctional by the time we see them. We replace with a very inexpensive indak switch.

you can start by swapping out the control switches very easily:

I reached out to Oldenzaal as well, my car is a non-AC car to which I would like to consider adding AC. The Oldenzaal kit looks complete including the side panels and all of the needed parts, it appears that it would work to add on in my situation. It's not cheap - over 7500 euros. THe installation instructions appears fairly straightforward in steps, I'm sure there's complexity in completion. I also was looking at the kit referenced above from dtechparts but that looks more like an upgrade of existing AC rather than de novo installation.
 
having done a retrofit on a non-ac car I can tell you that you can come in at a much lower total price point when you are willing to source the parts individually, probably around 1/3 of this.
 
Any chance that you have a write-up of that process somewhere here on the forum? I've looked through a lot of the threads and I did pick up Rob Siegal's book since this is another part of the car that I'm going to need to understand the basics (evaporator, drier, blower, fan, etc) in order to make sure that I'm covering all of the bases. The Oldenzaal kit did seem to have a pretty high price, especially given the relative weakness of the dollar right now; what it appeared to offer was the convenience of knowing that you had all of the parts and pieces. I have unfortunately already experienced some of the downsides of upgrades with the E9 - changing to a newer power steering pump necessitated a new bracket, and so on down the line. I have already upgraded my harmonic balancer and its pulleys so I do have the "third belt" slot available for the AC compressor.

Rob Siegel's book is a very good source, and there is the official E9 Repair Manual that includes a step by step guide on how to retrofit AC, including pictures. I have used this extensively, but only have the German version.

Ah, nice. I have the 2-volume blue books but looks like this is a different publication, since I don't believe the blue books have info on the retrofitting. If you're able to post the relevant pages here that would be great for me and others to follow. German-only is fine, that's what Google Translate is for ;)
 
the parallel flow condenser, the spal pusher fan, the hoses, the dryer, the real sanden compressor, the LC Wylie mount ... this is all the top of the line stuff for the coupe.

The blue book repair manual in English (Vol 2) contains the same step by step guide for a retrofit/subsequent installation in section 64-50/5 on the back end of the second part.
 
anyone notice the heater hoses are also on the pass side , when the heater hoses for a stock system are on the driver side I would be curious to see how this is retrofitted , seams like a lot more work than its worth ,
 
when i look at the oldenzaal evaporator, i'm asking myself - what happens to the heater / defrost controls? how does that work with no way to connect the cables from the controls to the heater box.

Brendan, i was looking at the pipes and was curious why you would need 3 pipes for the a/c.
 
the O/Z evaporator unit operates in the same way as the Behr stock unit - judging by the pictures I have seen - it is a separate stand alone module not connected to the heater core and its controls. Main difference I notice is the evaporator core - different size than Behr, and with an external TXV, therefore the AC hoses go around in front of the evaporator. This design eliminates the hard lines.

there are 4 pipes going into that unit two for ac and two for heat , I Have a client where someone tried to put this in thier car I pulled out , Those of you who know me Know Im not afaird to try things outside the box and this was further outside the box that i cared for , trying to reroute the heater system etc like I siad earlier seams like more work that its worth , But if some one like this I know where a unit is for sale !

are you referring to the Oldenzaal evaporator (as pictured above) - or to the Ditech unit referenced on top of this page?

It appears that the Ditech unit is an integrated heater/AC unit.
