Oops someone messed up.

A sort if similar thing happened to me with my 2000 CS. It was just a couple days before someone was coming to pick it up after buying it.

The car rolled out of my garage, down the driveway and hit the curb across the street and a bush at the same time. Fortunately the only damage was to the grill that contacted the bush. It kind of moved two of the vertical slats further apart. I was able to reposition them with some delicate maneuvering and you could not tell they were ever displaced.

I had left the car in neutral without the parking brake on. The garage was level or so I thought. I don't know how it got to rolling initially. It had been sitting there like that for a couple hours before is decided to leave.

Hey Andrew, just saw this post... on the bright side, it could have been much worse. Next spring, you won't see any evidence of the incident. Good luck!

Hi Andrew,

Sorry to hear about your coupe. With all of the hills we have around here, I'm always worried that one of our cars is going to go for a spin on it's own.

About a month ago, a branch from our neighbor's gigantic Chinese Elm fell on our garage (on the stall where I keep my coupe). I was the only one home and the first thing I did was check on the e9, then the M5. When I went outside, I found my old but nice F150 buried under the branch. It looked like it took the cab out. At the time, I had the truck for sale on CL and had a guy coming later that afternoon to look at it. He called right after it happened to see if we were still on and I asked if we could postpone it a couple of days. After I cleared all of the limbs off of it, it only had one little scratch on the hood. I sold it to the guy two days later.

The big old elm was cut down last week.

I let a friend drive mine, unfortunately with the parking brake on for a bit. Seems to have stretched the cable. Now only holds on the last click, and I don't trust it. Now I only park it in gear, plus parking brake. Belt and suspenders.

My car is in my ricket barn

Mario L.

PS, John, where is your car parked ? :p

But it's a real barn with rotting logs for floor joists and a field stone foundation. Note the tree trunk posts in the pic. But structurally it's very solid and I don't think a full size Ash tree could crush more than the attic

Not some fancy schmanzy garage-mahal like Andrew's. But, someday the hobby fund will pay for a barn renov so I can park cars on the 2nd floor too.

You probably just need new parking brake shoes. Try turning the adjusters. You might get lucky and have enough meat left on the shoes to take up the slack. Cable adjustment always comes last...

All Fixed

To conclude this thread, VSRs team did an amazing job repairing the damage.

Air dam was flawlessly repaired, bumper repaired and the center section rechromed, the nose ding took some doing and is like new. The trim couldn't be replaced, so it was sent to Speedway Metal Polishing and they expertly straightened it and of course polished it. All the damage was repaired along with some under trim and paint rust that was discovered on the leading edge of the right fender.

VSR is the best shop I've dealt with, they secured more funds from my insurance co to help cover the repairs.

Yikes! I know this happened two years ago, but it still makes me cringe. I'm coping out an E24 on CL that suffered a similar fate.

One of my requirements for my house was a perfectly flat driveway. My cars won't roll anywhere thankfully.
