I have what appears to be an NOS + battery cable which I would like to incorporate into my wiring cleanup project. Below it is the cable that came off my car. Can anyone confirm which is the correct version? Thanks.

Steve, the one on the bottom of your picture looks like the one I just removed when doing carb work with summer. Pretty sure that it is original.
Cool, was wondering because there is one purported to be NOS on Kleinanzeigen (identical to my spare) with the part number 61121355434 tag still on it:

But my harness appears to be wrapped for the single cable like we have. And the RealOEM diagram shows the single cable but I usually don't take those pics as gospel:

Get that one with small fittings for relay wires. The only BMW one still available is e28 with two wires and metal bracket. The wire ran to starter and the other from starter to alternator.

I have a small ancillary fuse box on the firewall that powers the relays and windows so I am cleaning it all up so nothing is attached to the batt terminal. I’ll keep the original setup. Thanks.

I would like to see what you are doing Steve. My winter project is to do an engine bay clean-up. I have added some wire and a fuse for one item and would like to add the fuse/fusable link that @sfdon mentioned in his post on @BarneyT 's coupe.

Does anyone know the specifications for these cables? Specifically, the length measured from the center of the battery terminal to the terminal that goes to the starter. Also, the terminal size and specifications for the alternator cable (#64), and the length of cable #63 that should run from the battery terminal to the alternator, including the terminal size and specs as well.

I need to fabricate these for my restoration, and I would really appreciate any input. Thanks!

The first number is the Metric Wire size, 16 = 6 AWG is the Starter cable, this table will convert the rest for you. 4 = 12 gauge

Leo, here's what i know

both cables are attached to a 4 AWG eye with a 90 degree bend (to attach to the starter) - eye hole is approx. 8 mm
there is a plastic sleeve around the 2 cables from the eye (42 cm long). the remaining 27 cm the wires are separate.

black cable (16 mm2 / 6 AWG) with eyes a 90 degree eye at one end - (69 cm long from eye to center of battery terminal)
red cable (4 mm2 / 12 AWG) with a hooded eye at one end - (69 cm long from eye to center of hooded eye - eye is 6.3 mm / 1/4"). this wire is covered by a plastic cover

OK, and for extra credit, does anyone have a source for the ground cable (item #6 in the drawing in post #3 above). This is BMW part # 61121350767 and RealOEM shows it as "ended" (Max and W&N say the same thing). So I'm resigned to finding an aftermarket ground cable that looks close.

I have seen photos of well-restored e9's using copper-colored ground cables that look very vintage, but I cannot locate their source. Autozone carries a zinc plated cable the right length (~10") which may be my best fall-back solution unless someone has a better idea.

i bought some years ago here on the forum. somebody found them and offered them for sale. there was the woven negative battery cable and the woven cable between the tranny and the firewall. anybody remember who that was or who the source was?

the original cable was zinc, not the copper colored one.

I think it was @Luis A. ?

Hmm, that's interesting. So the $17 cable from Autozone would be a pretty good facsimile of the original. See: https://www.autozone.com/p/sorensen-battery-cable-ab9/1053297?searchText=1053297&redirectUrl=true

Well, clicking on your link does suggest that the copper cable is available from W&N for €39.95 plus ~$50 in shipping plus tariffs. But if its copper color is not original, while the appearance of the Autozone part is closer to original and it's priced at $17, then I guess my decision becomes pretty simple unless I'm missing something.

It doesn't take long for the copper color to fade away. I like the color so I soaked the mesh with clear coat and it has held up pretty well.
