Just wanting to know what possible wheel options exist for a 17x8 front and a 17x9 rear with ET20.

For example, love this look but not sure where to find BBS RS wheels or alternatively - and preferred - a BBS replica set. I would like something like this that is an older throw-back design for my build, but not anything like Alpinas.

Style 5's ( BBS RC090 ) . If you use the Search function , there are numerous examples ...or just google images "BMW E9 BBS RC090 ". That said, I believe staggered Style 5's are pretty rare ...easier to find a set of 17 x 8's .

Firstly those are 18" upsized BBS RS with slant lips in the pic above. The owner likes has about $3K into those wheels.

You can buy pre-built BBS RS in 17" or upsize existing RS's with new lips and barrels. I recommend that you check out the 5x120 classifieds on stanceworks, as there are sets regularly for sale. Expect to drop $2K+ though.

BBS RC090's are 17x8 ET20. You can find 17x9 but they pretty difficult to come by. I posted an unaffiliated set in poor shape for sale for $600 a few months ago. Keep you eyes peeled.

STR seems to have a solid handle on BBS reps. I'm not sure about 17" though.

General fitment is ET 11 up to 7" with rolled fenders up front and up to 8.5" ET 24 rear . In my opinion 16" is the largest practical wheel to use on the CS. I'm currently running 16 x 7 ET 11 BBS RS 005s. Can contact Ehrlich Wheelworks and discuss a custom set of BBS to suit your needs. http://ewheelworks.us

Be sure to reinforce the rear shock towers. Several coupes have suffered metal fatigue and had the rear shocks punch through the mount into the parcel shelf. If you modify the coupe to have a coil over setup you can get away with larger width front and rear.

OEM tire Size: 195/70/14 – dia. 24.7”, 77.7” circ, rev / mile = 815
Substitutes: 205/60/15 – dia. 24.7”, 77.6” circ, rev / mile = 817
Substitutes: 225/55/15 – dia. 24.7”, 77.7” circ, rev / mile = 815
Substitutes: 205/55/16 – dia. 24.9”, 78.2” circ, rev / mile = 811
Substitutes: 225/50/16 – dia. 24.9” 78.1” circ, rev / mile = 811
Substitutes: 245/40/17 – dia. 24.7”, 77.6” circ, rev / mile = 816

Hi Markos, every article on this car mentions 17". Are you 100% confident these are 18s?

Also, where would I buy the parts to make those wheels if I wanted to do something identical?

Thanks again for the insights all, much appreciated.

Perhaps I was mislead by the tire stretch. Stanceworks may get e9 driver to racecar associations wrong, but they won't screw up wheel sizing. I think the tire stretch makes a huge difference in the look as 17's are at the max of practical size where no stretch is required. You won't fit 18's without careful thought. See below and determine what look you like better. If you are building a set, you can buy vintage faces and center caps on eBay. The model isn't as important if you are getting new lips and barrels. Check out rotiform and spintech for the rest. Spintech also sells built wheels.

These are 17" RC's on a member's E9:

I believe the wheels in the first of Markos' pictures are BMW style 5s, which were manufactured by BBS for the e39 in 17 inch sizes. Those wheels are not uncommon, but they have a 74 inch hub (as opposed to the 72.6 inch hub on our vehicles and almost every other hub BMW ever made). You need a set of hub rings to run those on any car with a 72.6 inch hub.

For what its worth, I think 17s are too big for our cars, and 18s are over the top.

I've been running staggered Style 5s (17x8/9) on my coupe for a few years. I love the way they look.

Sorry about the same old dog picture, it's one of my favorites. I bought the car the same day she was born, Halloween 2003. The old girl is still hanging in there.

Are your front fenders rolled? Please post your wheel specs, mainly ET offset and tire sizes.

Interesting, I do think these are 18s on the original car I posted, so maybe stanceworks did get it wrong.

I did some research and the stanceworks car has RS212/197s which are supposedly pretty rare.

What's a good source of the Style 5s in 18s? For purchase I mean...

Andrew,
When you speak of rear shock tower reinforcement, do you mean a rear shock tower brace ?

Here is another angle, now I am back to thinking 17s. Anyone?

I think they are 17's. The tires are stretched so the profile looked smaller than the typical 45's you would see on 17's. To answer your other question, you can get 18" two piece RC's. They are around $1,000 a set unfinished.

Another cool option is a BBS RZ 394 from a BMW 850. They are 16x8.5. I wasn't sure how well they would work with an offset of 13 or so. I don't have any pics of them mounted on an E9, but I have a YouTube video with a very brief shot of them mounted on a Polaris 3.0CS. FYI - There is an 17" set on CL right now.

Not an e9:
