Hi all,

I recently replaced the (single) dash speaker in my E9 with an Alpine SPS-406 that I found used on eBay (from a Porsche 944 apparently). The original had finally died...see below for pics of the hole, the speaker, and the final installation (I see now that I need also to replace the speaker cloth with something original-like soon).

At any rate, I suspect that someone is in the same boat as me and may be seeking a replacement speaker that fits in the space and works with the radio (mine is connected to the original Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio).

Since the speaker came with another as part of a pair, I'm happy to pass on the other one of the set to someone for the cost I paid ($42 including shipping). So, if you want a single speaker like the one pictured, it's yours for my cost of $21, plus whatever the shipping cost is to you in the US.

Happy motoring (and listening)!

Hi ajf,
there's a store here in Germany selling single loudspeakers that fit into our dashboard. Various brands like Alpine, Audio System, Pioneer etc.

The front cover of the loudspeaker consists of three parts:
- the frame with the steel pins
- the gauze
- the front cover.
All three parts are glued together.
Separating the parts without cracking the veneer layer seems utterly impossible.
Trying to remove the top veneer layer will crack the other layers.20250302_125941.jpg20250302_173005.jpg
I do have rebuild parts available, including the gauze, a set at 165€ plus shipping from Germany.

There is a post somewhere concerning a viable alternative for the cloth. Pantyhose of a specific color. I used this solution and was happy with it.

Found some usable fabric at JoAnne's craft store (that has since gone away)...I was scared of UV eating the lycra/stretchy threads of the pantyhouse...with the amount of work to separate the two frames, and restore each, before sandwiching the cloth in between, I wanted something that might last.

Well I used pantyhose knowing it would outlive me. Whenever I hear someone bought a parrot I always ask who are they leaving it to in their will.
