but i agree with you. i usually hate it. I just imagine a ton of carbon fiber bolt ons and alcantara wrapped interior

I don't entirely agree with that statement.
Audi created Nardo Grey in 2013.
They drew inspiration from the color of the asphalt on the track at the
Nardò Technical Center in Italy.

This is (was) my 1957 Giulietta Veloce in it's original colors. It made room for the E9
FWIW - Bristol is a factory e9 color.
Yes paint experts I took anI intentionally dark Bristol shot against the lightest pic of this car to best illustrate my point.
Here is a 70’s color. I personally think it is far more tragic to put Zender flairs on a genuine CSL.
Let me put it another way.
The color on the E9 body from BAT is—let's just say—gray, or a shade of gray.
That specific shade comes from a modern gray palette.
Of course, gray *did* appear on car bodies in the 70s—take that Porsche, for instance, which offered shades of gray back then, including "mouse gray."
But the color on the BAT car is a modern shade of gray that, in my humble opinion, looks bad on the E9 body.
I tried picturing the bodywork in a solid color, without those fancy stripes.
The color simply doesn't suit the car's lines.
It turns it into a flashy car—and that doesn't seem to be the right style for it.
In Poland, we have a saying:
There’s no accounting for taste.
To each their own...

I always use a variation of that in German: You can buy a lot, but you cannot buy taste
The ride height is too high, and the front spoiler really doesn't match the Zender kit.
It would have been enough to lower it by a few centimeters and swap the front spoiler for, say, the one in the black-and-white photo below—or simply do away with it altogether.
Pictured below is a project from the US dating back a few years.
It features a more modern paint color, and in my opinion, it’s one of the best-looking modern takes on the E9.

I get what you are saying though. FWIW the B&W photo you posted is a real group 2 car. It’s a helpful image and why I said these weak box flares aren’t group 2 (despite Zender’s marketing). The real Gr.2 flares a different animal and were 168/178 mm (6.6/7”) wide. They accommodated up to 10” wheels up front and 12” in the rear. That front spoiler is Alpina specific, and is 12” wider than a factory car. The only person I knew that made one was Thomas Schmidt in Germany, and his site is down now. even so it would need to be modified to fit the sender kit.

I completely agree.
My point was that, with this orange color scheme, the front spoiler doesn't match the rest of the car—it doesn't fit the overall styling.

@Markos your E3 looks stunning! Is that also your E10? I am building one with an S14 and using Son of Cobra CF roof/hood/trunk lid and will be a very nice hotrod. This is my retirement project and I currently have it in 100% bare metal.
When you start customizing cars, you start shrinking the % of the population that like your customization. I also don't care for the subject E9, but I really like Markos E3. There are no rights or wrongs when it comes to styling! Just opinions which is OK. I am glad that an E9 is getting attention and someone spent that much money on it.

Nope sorry to mislead you. My hobby is collecting parts and information. I don’t actually drive or restore BMW’s. Perhaps someday…
